Happy Birthday..........you and I share this day in common as it's my B'Day as well. Have a good one.
Yo, Spank. Happy Birthday back atcha. We share our birthday with Benjamin Franklin and my wife's late aunt Sarah.

Actually, this is a pretty big day - My 65th (sound of coughing).

I've got my Medicare and AARP cards in my wallet and Social Security check deposited. Next thing you know, the Missus and I will be hitting the Early Bird dinner circuit.

(Note - As an original Rock 'n Roller, I still peg my emotional age as being somewhere between 15 and 34).

Thanks a lot, guys.

Happy birthday Jeff and many happy returns. I can't believe there's someone on this board older than me (although not by much). Maybe we can get together for an exciting game of shuffleboard sometime. :D

Cubs pitchers can't stay healthy. When Zambrano gets lit up, he melts down because he is a headcase. Plus, if the Cubs ever got close, Steve Bartman would find a way to mess things up.

How did the Cards do in the playoffs last year?

Zambrano is a headcase but when he is on (most of the time) he is virtually unhittable. Who would you rather have? Clement, Wood, Zambrano Prior (who will be 100% come playoff time) or Suppan, Carpenter (whom I always thought was a good pitcher) Morris and Williams?? I think any rational person would prefer the Cubs starters.

Keep praying the Cards pitchers hold up. :D

Well the Cubs pitching has some nice starters in the rotation. However, that same pitching has helped them trail the division leaders (STL) by 11 games at this point.

The Cardinals sub-par pitchers have done well enough to help their team to an 11 game lead over the Cubs.

The Cardinal pitching staff doesn't have to hold up when they have the best defense in baseball behind them. Right now the Cubs have a banged-up starting staff, an atrocious bullpen, and are eleven games back. Any talk of them catching a fundamentally sound team who has the best lineup in the NL is delusional even when Rolen comes back to Earth. The Cubs can hope for the Wild Card, but it will end up going to an NL West team who gets to play the DBacks down the stretch and the desperate Wrigleyville faithful will have to wait 'til next year...again.

Hey Jeff, Happy Birthday it's a day after mine & Simon Kirke's (Drummer from Bad Company!). I don't really care about the St. Louis baseball Cardinals much but being born on the South Side of Chicago. The Cubs may as well be the Diamondbacks!!! GO WHITE SOX & BREWERS!!!

The key that may help the Cards sustain their lead is the cohesiveness/comaraderie of their team.

Pitching staff has done their jobs so far this year, it is the hitters who have failed this team thus far and the bullpen has been atrocious. All the Cubs starters have ERA's 4 and under which is pretty respectable. Clement has been pitching lights out and has gotten virtually no run support. Other than Zambrano's little meltdown against STL he has been lights out as well. Wood is Wood and if Prior can get healthy he is probably their ace. Oh and Maddux is having a nice year after a slow start.

Cards pitchers have done what wa necessary but they are still subpar and cannot be expected to keep performing above their real talent forever.

I'm lovin' this thread, guys.

Not only your best wishes, but a scintillating running debate on the StL Cards. (Have been really enjoying "the streak" - condolences to the Redlegs; they have to be wondering what kind of mojo Tony LaR is carrying in his pocket).
