The question now becomes--does the team go all out for him against us, or quit with nothing left to play for?

Does it really matter with #14 under center? They could be blatantly tanking and beat us by two touchdowns...

Barring a setback, he's Michigan bound.

Don't worry, CBUS, your Buckeyes will be fine as Michigan will suck for another year or two.
Like I said earlier, I hope he does go to Michigan. The Big 10 needs all the help it can get. Plus, him not being in SF is a good thing too.

Marcellus Wiley had it right...

BTW, I Forgot to mention how he went on to talk about how deals get done before they are supposed to get done.
He said there was a signed contract weeks ago. That is not correct. At least that's not what is being reported.

There are all kinds of thing being reported. I've read where Michigan paid a $5 million buyout, however I've also read there is no buyout for him to leave for a college job.

I'll still believe it when I hear Harbaugh say it. It really makes no sense but I hope it's true.

I'll be very happy that he's out. I think he's a terrific coach. This could really hurt the 49ers organization for a while. I thought he'd be there for 10+ years.

Michigan's my second team after ASU, so I look forward to seeing him kick some Ohio State ass, too.

I just can't see him going to Oakland with the issues they have within that organization.

Harbaugh to coach in Michigan next season

Any chance there are ripple effects to this today? Players don't like him, and now the coach seems tohave committed to leaving them as he's rumored to be there as of Tuesday. Any chance they just flat out give up today and not even try? I don't think they give up 100% since thyere men and professionals, but could I be wrong?

Doesn't matter with Blindley at the helm. Besides, they will play hard because they do not want to end season with losing record.

They might come out playing hard, but if they get punched in the mouth, and we were to go up early, they'll fold quickly, IMO. Of course we need an actual QB to score points early.

I'm telling you it's not done yet. The Raiders have to step up though if they want him. They would have to give him full control and, to this point, they haven't indicated that they will. If they don't, he's gone to Michigan. Money is not the issue with Oakland. Total control is.

That's from as reliable source as you can have.

Harbaugh has never had total control, or even minimal control from what I have witnessed.

Hilarious.

The Detroit Free Press ran a story yesterday about Harbaugh going to Michigan...and they included a picture of John Harbaugh with the article.

Two things, that's a ton of money for a college football coach. I thought college basketball salaries were ridiculous but my goodness.

how could they not make it 49 million instead of 48 just to piss off the 49ers?

Top college football salaries are insane. Not only for what the taxpayers are on the hook for (i.e., salary), but the benefits that boosters provide. I was negotiating a deal for Nick Saban to speak at a company event. $500K for 3 hours' work, plus private jet, luxury suite, etc., etc. His rep told me (and he reps Urban Meyer, too) that you can't depend on these coaches to show up even if you have a signed contract.

Said that Urban Meyer cancelled two events last year after they lost the B10 Championship game and left the hosts holding the bag. Bookings done 6 months in advance.

Anyway, boosters paid of Saban's $4M home last year. Just crazy stuff.

Yes that's the only reason why the salaries are allowed, because boosters are allowed to kick in money(and shoe companies) so that it's not really Michigan paying that much.

UC system schools have a limit of 3 million a year, if you go over you have to get Board of Regent approval. Cal did it for Tedford. They don't care if most of that money is coming from boosters, if the salary is over 3 million you must have approval, played a large role in UCLA's basketball coaching search.

I don't begrudge Harbaugh I think he's a terrific coach but it really does seem nuts for a University to pay a football coach that much money, even if most of it is coming from boosters.

Wasn't this guy the QB at Michigan when ASU won the Rose Bowl with the great Jeff Van Raaphorst at QB?

Here is a great few minutes from the game. We were so loud that day that Harbaugh complained. Back then the officials would let the QB take as long as they wanted, but would eventually warn the crowd to quiet down. After three warnings - they would take away a timeout from the team whose fans caused the delays. Ridiculous. LOL

Unless Bowles becomes the guy there this could not have worked out better for the Cards. Elite coach gone and no draft pick compensation.

I read that Harbaugh won more games in his first 4 years than any coach in NFL history. Everyone is ridiculing the Niner organization over this, but what does this say about Harbaugh?? I think the guy is borderline nuts, in the same way that Billy Martin (Yankees) was. The guy is simply almost impossible to deal with. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he flops at MI. He'll have early success, but he'll eventually burn everyone out.

He's a turnaround expert.

Eventually they move on to their next project.

Guys like that can succeed longer in college because the players turnover every 4 years.

The problem they have long term is the staff around them, the assistant coaches the AD etc.

In the NFL you have player turnover yes but lots of the key guys are the same for 5-6 years and then a guy like Harbaugh has issues. And the staff etc it becomes a big problem.

There is talk they may go after David Shaw of Stanford, people ask why fire Harbaugh to hire his former assistant but the idea is Shaw gives you much of the good stuff Harbaugh brought, but far less of the bad stuff because he's apparently much easier to get along with.

Harbaugh has one of those faces, where without even hearing the guy say one word, you mutter to yourself "I bet that guy is a dick".
