And if he blows a play that costs us a game, then what will you say?+1

I tend to agree. Any idea mixed with a lot of speculation is just that....speculation. It's not fact.My hesitation in these diatribes is we have virtually zero insight into practice. Maybe Collins is totally clueless. We don’t know.
It’s a tough call. If Collins isn’t ready to call the game on defense and Hicks is cuz of his experience but Hicks is a liability in coverage. The only real gripe I have is that in garbage time Collins wasn’t out there. So what? Teams are flat targeting Hicks. He is a liability. I understand a veteran getting more snaps or key snaps over a rookie. Not a problem. I struggle with your first round rookie getting one more snap than Ezekiel Turner on defense vs a division rival when the game was in hand.
No one is saying Collins has earned 100% of snaps over Hicks. But he can't learn if he doesn't get reps.
We were ahead 37-13 at one pointAnd if he blows a play that costs us a game, then what will you say?
Either bad scouting or bad rookie on boarding. People made a similar claim last year. I saw what I saw in the preseason and so far I have yet to see an egregious error. Seems silly to continue drafting defensive players in round 1 to just have the DC sit them and waste a cost controlled year. Especially at ILB where you don't have the cost savings you do at other spots. My hesitation in these diatribes is we have virtually zero insight into practice. Maybe Collins is totally clueless. I haven't seen a ton of 20+ point plays in football. Again, it isn't an all or nothing proposition. You can get a guy 30% snaps easily in games you lead by over 20 points. And if he blows a play that costs us a game, then what will you say?
Yeah, it isn't tough. It’s a tough call. If Collins isn’t ready to call the game on defense and Hicks is cuz of his experience but Hicks is a liability in coverage. The only real gripe I have is that in garbage time Collins wasn’t out there.
I took what you and chopper said as him playing over Hicks as a starter. So, ok.We were ahead 37-13 at one point
Hicks can call plays but not much else
They could have found some plays for him
How else is he going to learn?
I just want a consistent 30% to 40% of defensive snaps and they don't all have to come from Hicks.I took what you and chopper said as him playing over Hicks as a starter. So, ok.
Maybe..... Vance kept Simmons out and only put him in for situations in which he could be successful? It’s kinda his job in developing a rookieThat if you compare Isaiah Simmons advanced stats per snap he is almost the exact same player he was last year except for his pressure rates since Vance is keeping him in coverage more. So, statistically, Simmons is pretty much the same player this year that he was last year. The year he wasn't good enough to get a bunch of snaps.
Similar with Byron Murphy who Vance took snaps from and gave to Dre Kirkpatrick last year because Byron couldn't play outside.
I just disagree with Vance's belief that players learn from the bench (especially highly drafted ones). Mistakes happen with young players, that is how they learn. Now, I don't hate that Hicks got more snaps than Collins vs a very deceptive offense, but the number of snaps Collins received was a joke and did not get him adequate exposure to a division opponent he will be tasked to stop soon enough.
While generally I agree that you should be drafting first rounders that play sooner than later, (a) with all due respect, you don’t have enough information about scheme/assignment to know if he’s made egregious errors in games or even less in practice; and (b) it’s four games in - he has plenty of games in which yet to play to be a significant contributor in his rookie season. And then there’s this: we are winning and many coaches are of the mind “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” (4-0).Either bad scouting or bad rookie on boarding. People made a similar claim last year. I saw what I saw in the preseason and so far I have yet to see an egregious error.
