Well Muttay did grade out higher ultimately then Any of the interior linemen. Did you actually watch Pugh get tossed aside repeatedly by Donald? Our IOL is below league average. And we have the franchise playing right there.

No, I didn't because he was usually lined up over Sweezy.

When was the last time the top 4 OT rankings were so diverse...2013? Hopefully, not the same outcome of 2013 from a talent perspective.

They really arent that diverse.

Wills or Wirfs are the top on most boards. Really just depends on what you value. Then usually Becton. He played pretty well without good technique. Massive physical talent.

And then Thomas. He has issues with his feet.

Are you trying to say that getting abused by Aaron Donald isn't a normal occurrence for any O-Line?

Pugh & Sweezy are fine. Not great.... just fine.

if I ranked our OLineman by performance last year it would go:

  1. Sweezy
  2. Hump
  3. Pugh
  4. Shipley
  5. Murray

And that seems in line with most peoples thoughts I think.

you can say it till your blue in the face fact is Thomas grades out better in everything over Wirfs. Thomas technique is far better than Wirfs

again nobody is talking about Thomas playing guard in

I've been arguing over Thomas vs Becton for a while.

Not sure how Becton even made it into the top 4 honestly. It should be a top 3 then Becton & Jones in the mid teens to early twenties.

Thomas and Wills are true tackles

Wirfs is a guard and Becton is an after thought.

Becton has plays where he looks like the hulk but those aren’t the norm he’s graded out way below all the others in pass and run blocking. I can’t for the life of me figure out how a guy so big and strong is so bad at run blocking.

Dudes with Becton's size have translated very well to the NFL over the recent years.

Yet somehow he was an Outland Trophy Semi-Finalist and these other dudes weren't...

2019 OUTLAND TROPHY SEMIFINALISTS UNVEILED
OMAHA (FWAA) – Six semifinalists for the 2019 Outland Trophy – five offensive linemen and one defensive tackle – were announced Wednesday by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee. The six semifinalists are players from six schools at four different positions representing four different conferences.

The 2019 Outland Trophy, presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), is awarded annually to the nation's best college interior lineman on offense or defense.
NFID is presenting the trophy to help increase awareness about the importance of annual influenza (flu) prevention. Getting vaccinated each year is your best line of defense against the flu. The All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) selected the
semifinalists.

The field for the 2019 Outland Trophy is as follows, listed in alphabetical order: Wisconsin center Tyler Biadasz, Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown, Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell, Clemson guard John Simpson, Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs.

FWIW - So was Mitch Hyatt OT from last year who went undrafted:

Here is a closer look at each of the semifinalists:

Mitch Hyatt, OT, Clemson (6-5, 310, Jr., Suwanee, Ga.): The Tigers' left tackle is helping produce offensive numbers in record territory. The unbeaten Tigers are one of five schools with three active 1,000-yard career rushers on its current roster (Hyatt has been up front for all three), and Clemson is ninth in the nation in total offense at 526.6 yards per game, which is currently 10th in school history. Hyatt, the Outland Trophy Offensive Player of the Month for October, already owns Clemson's career record for snaps from scrimmage (3,420) and will break another record with a 53rd career start Saturday against Duke.

there have also been plenty of look like Tarzan play like Jane guys who have failed. To say he can play just cause of his looks is kinda crazy.

He doesn’t grade well in pass blocking or run blocking he’s well below the other 3

Becton, Ruggs... those are the physical freaks which can get in the way of a franchises' successful draft

Same thing with Ruggs the more I look at him I just see something missing. How come you run faster, jump higher than everybody else but it just never all came together.

no thanks not in round 1. Now if I’m a good team and I think I’m just missing that one piece then yes but not for us

Yeah...my bad. I thought you were saying Wirfs.

FYI - Wirfs was a semifinalist as well.

Ngl, I’m actually interested for Wirfs at G than I am for him at RT or any other OTs in the draft.

The amount of pulling the Guards do in this offense, maximizing his athleticism in space while minimizing his weaknesses with his pass sets on the outside....is really enticing.

Thoughts? @Solar7
Sorry, I took a break from all contact with everyone for a few days due to some things boiling over and just making me a surly person.

I'm with you. I have no issue with Wirfs' flexibility to move to guard, or dominate at guard if this entire situation has us starting Gilbert or Murray due to a lack of reps. It still means he can come in and replace Sweezy/Gilbert/Murray in the following year.

I still lean toward having him play RT, but all I really want is an elite player somewhere across the offensive line. It doesn't really matter where.

Better now, thanks. Had a family member decide to drive from CA to AZ to my severely at risk family to make a political statement about his freedom and it set off a pretty bad couple of days while arguing things.

Oh, they let him in and celebrated, telling me I should be down there as a live-in caretaker for my grandmother because I'm "not doing anything else."

One of them is going to get sick and I won't even get smug satisfaction since they'll be dead and that's awful.

I sure hope we draft a lineman! Haha.
