We have to sign a QB in FA.

Who is left? Warner, Garcia, Johnson.

No need to panic...the top 3 out of 4 vets are still there (Bledsoe).

We want to sign a RB and/or a CB.

Who is left?
RB - Henry
CB - Smoot, Dyson, Rolle, and Law

Keep in mind...both of these positions have very good quality for us at #8 and early second rd.

Can't do...No veteran 2 gap run stuffing DT's left.

Who is left?
Not much...Maake from Baltimore and that's about it.

So what have we learned? LOL
We will sign a veteran QB most likely Warner or Johnson.
We will sign a CB and or RB.
We will draft a CB and or RB.
We desperately need a big DT.

I thought we switched to the 1 gap? Maybe I'm wrong. Anyone care to explain our current situation...or at least what started as say a 1 gap, switched back...and/or whatever it transpired to be?

In the new system we basicly play with two runstuffers and two pass-rushers.

RE:
Pure pass-rusher coming from the blindside edge. One-one with the offensive LT
Current players: Barry with Pace backing-up.
NT:
Two-gap DT, who is required to take on a double-team on basicly every down. When the Nose is engaged with both the Guard and Center he creates space for the Under Tackle.
Current players: Russell Davis (and he's ideally not big enough, so he lines up in a tilted stand.)
UT:
One-gap DT. With the Nose taking up both the center and opposite guard the Under Tackle is one-on-one with the guard at able to create havoc in the backfield on both running and passing plays.
Current players: Darnell Dockett, (Kenny King), Wendall Bryant, Ross Kolodziej and probably Chris Hovan.
LE:
A more physical DE, because he has to handle double-teams from the RT and TE on running plays, but should still be a capable pass-rusher on passing downs.
Current players: Kenny King, Peppi Zellner, Antonio Smith with Pace coming in on pure passing downs at times.

Status:
Berry was an all-pro at his position and Pace is a good back-up.

I really like the way Russell Davis played this season, but we have to bring in somebody for depth and to compete with Davis. Nobody available in free agency (Pat Williams was to old to be an option), so we have to find someone in the draft (3rd/4th round)

Dockett was awesome as a rookie and should be even better as he develops. King has been moved to LE, Bryant is probably gone and Hovan will be signed.

I really don't understand it when people on this board has DE as a HUGE need. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I like our LE position for three reasons:
1. If Kenny King can beat out Dockett (as he did at the start of training camp), then he should be solid at LE since his size is more suited for the LE position.
2. I haven't given up on Pace yet.
3. If everything else fails, I don't see a problem with having a rotation like this season, where Zellner played on rushing down and Pace played on passing downs.

Oh Canada!
I would say that 2 rbs that could still be of some value to us are Davenpoop(GB) and A-train Chicago. Also Willie Green could be had for a late pick and Droughns is still availble. as for a run stooper that is what Ed Hartwell does best. I know he's a lb but he is excellent against the run and with Dansby great against the pass you've got both cover well with both on the field and you can factor in that hayes can also come in on obivious passing downs.

You forgot the Cards most desporate need : OG

If they have to, they can make due with Clemment as RT, but the RGs they used last year would be backups on other teams. They need to sign a vet guard with at least average NFL starting ability. Without getting an OG, this offseason is a failure. A rookie draftee will not solve the problem.
