Tyrann Mathieu says he'll sign with a team that has a football-first culture that's all about winning, even if that's not the team that offers him the most money

ProFootballTalk

I mean, he was asked to take a pay cut and by saying that it’s likely he’ll take another one.

He just broken up with at prom...of course he's feeling jilted and bitter. We all would. He also made some very positive statements on his way out... and vowed to keep working in the Phx community with his foundation.

Sounds to me like he's acknowledging the fact that he'll get less money in a way that helps him save face. Most pro athletes have monster egos.

Or, could be stating he wants to go to a team which like Arizona put football first and winning, though our results have not been so great the last few seasons. If that to me was a jab at Arizona, it would have been far more direct and lets face it, Mathieu is not very articulate

Yeah, I don't see this as a dig at all. Likely just him saying that a culture fit is very important to him on a new team, which makes sense, given his previous problems. Going to a bad organization or back to New Orleams could be bad for him.

Wasn’t it Matthieu who last year said there were guys in locker room who weren’t team guys or thought they were better than they actually were?

I think his beef is with other guys on the team. If he is thanking management and there is a new coaching staff coming in, how does he know what the culture will be?

A point was brought up that maybe the new defense may not be a good fit for Matthieu so he wants to go somewhere he will have a chance to thrive in. He’s gone no matter what.

I think he is just making it clear that he'd take less to play on a team committed to winning rather than cash in with a team like the Browns. :)

At first I thought he wasn' but he might be. Especially when he says it's not all about the money. If it's not about the money than why not restructure the contract?
