Wow just checked ESPN headlines and 3 HCs have already been reportedly fired; Crennel Browns, Mangini Jets and Marinelli Lions. Jets just missed the playoffs so I'm a litlle surprised by Mangini being fired. The others are no surprise. I'm sure there will be more this week.

No surprises so far. All three were expected IMO.

Still out there as possibilities: Gruden in TB, Jauron in Buffalo, Edwards in KC, and less likely, Reed in Philly and Phillips in Dallas, and possibly the Cable guy in Oakland.

Great, three new defensive coordinator candidates. Bring in Mangini and Crennell for interviews.

Del Rio from Jacksonville could also get the axe.

and Parcells and his crew may opt out of Miami. Parcells can collect his whole contract when Huizenga sells the team and walk away without any penalty to anyone who would hire him and his staff.

My guess is Edwards is gone. The guy sucks. He was Peterson's guy.

Cable is gone, but who takes the job?

Gruden stays. They love the guy. If he goes , he can have any of those available jobs.

Haslett....gone.

Phillips...gone. The coaches are in place???????

Reid stays. McNabb gone.

Jauron should stay.

Watch Urban Meyer get a job and fail.

I think Del Rio is safe.

Good for Mangini! How can Andy Reid be fired? Del Rio stays too and probably Edwards. Hazlett and Cable are toast, Jauron likely. Phillips and Marvin Lewis should be fired but the Bengals won't eat a contract. Hadn't thought about Gruden but doubtful. Bucs need a new QB bad.

I'm no Mangini fan, but his firing is a good example of the lesser degree of patience shown to quarterbacks and coaches in today's game.

I think everybody would agree that there's a learning curve to those jobs, and experience is important, but guys are getting less of a chance to learn before getting dumped.

I'm not saying that keeping Mangini would be the right move in this case, but I do think more continuity in general would be a good thing for the quality of play in the league.

Sadly, a 500 record in the Big Apple when your competitor the Giants won the Super Bowl last year and may go deep in the playoffs this year won't cut it. If Mangini was in Detroit, he'd be man of the year, and a top candidate to take over one of the three automobile companies.

I would be wary of Mangini

apparently not a respected guy in his own locker room -- are part of the reason he is being let go.

Spot on. Like the Yankees and Mets. They compete for Sports section ,front page coverage, and it had better be good news. Mangini did a good job considering he was saddled with Brett " the drama queen " Favre.

If you read deeper into it...

Huge free agent spending and a key personnel decision at QB. Mangini decides to dump Pennington and go after Favre...Jets get beat by Miami and the decision costs him his job.

were those decisions Mangini's, or Mike Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson's decisions?

I wonder if they are products of a Bellichek "system". Both led above average defenses as coordinators, but failed as top men.
Bellichek has been a stabilizing force in NE (hate him or otherwise) and has made sure that the defense is not totally inept, even in the face of injury and age.
Short version? How much of the Pats D was Mangini and Crennell?

I think there may be a similar phenominon in Baltimore.
Here's the list of coordinators:
Marvin Lewis
Mike Nolan
Rex Ryan

The Raven's D hasn't really missed a beat, even though they've had 2 canidates roll out the door (and maybe Lewis joining Nolan in no longer being HC's by the end of the year).

So with both NE and BAL having not missed the men who've gone on, wouldn't a team be wary of hiring anyone from those organizations?

Or am I over thinking it?

Are we talking about Farve being mad at Mangini for "calling him out in front of the players"? 'Cause the more I hear about Farve the less I like him.

I forgot, did Mangini get the GM powers along with the HC job? I'd hoped teams had gotten away from that nonsense, it's already proven to be too many hats for a modern coach.

Shanahan should be canned.

I've been saying that for years. He's the most overrated HC in the league, IMO. At the very least, he should lose his GM responsibilities.

Remember a couple of years ago the Donkeys were knocked out of the playoffs at home by a bad S.F. team?

Didn't the Broncos have something like half their team on IR? and ALL of their running backs? Poor Cutler had to carry the team all season.
