JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – More fully-padded practices and inter-squad scrimmages are coming in the week ahead for ETSU football, as the bulk of the spring season lies ahead.
With players in full pads, evaluations become more complete – even with the quarterbacks.
That room has gotten plenty of attention this offseason with the addition of two FBS transfers. But, head coach Will Healy thinks all of his signal callers are showing positive signs in the preseason.

Depth at that position in this day and age of college football, he said, is a must.
“You have to at least have two (quarterbacks),” Healy said earlier this month. “I can’t tell you many years in coaching where our backup hasn’t started games. So, all of those guys need to prepare like they’re starters – and they’ve done that.”
“So, I think Jaylen (King) has made major steps and Baylor (Hayes) has been special,” he continued. “Obviously, feel really good about the two transfers we brought in. So, that room is deep and you’re going to need that come fall.”
Healy said, however, he is still a long way off from naming a starting quarterback.
