The Sun-Sentinel reports: The Heat utilized $4.9 million in gained cap space on Wizards free-agent swingman Mike Miller, who had a standing five-year, $30 million offer on the table from the Heat.

Radio station KSFY in Miller's native South Dakota confirmed the deal early Friday morning.

The Knicks and Clippers also had offers on the table for Miller, with the Clippers' package worth significantly more than the Heat package. The Bulls also spoke with Miller's representatives.

So they used all their cap space left on one player? Weird, what about a center?

How did they still have space? How much of a discount did Wade/James/Bosh give them?

About 1mil apiece from what I've heard. Combined with the Beasley trade gave them enough. Vet mins here on out though, but I doubt they care after that FA haul.

They have 3 unsigned 2nd round draft picks...one is a center.

Rumor surfaced Shaq will be heading there for the vet min. It was reported on ESPN radio in Florida so I'm not sure how true it is.

Maybe he can stand in a suite and point to his ring finger to excite the fans... :D

Does the MLE open up once a team goes over the cap even if they start the FA period under it?

I wouldn't think so but that's seems to be about the right number.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Shaq is a far better option than any other vet minimum.

So they essentially traded Beasley for Miller when they have almost no front court. I'm very glad the Suns never pursued Beasley, the guy seems to be a waste.

I wonder what the "Ru Paul of Big Men" would think of Shaq joining the team.

Before Shaq can join the team he should have to walk through South Beach dressed like Ru Paul.

Shaq going there makes sense.....if he goes there it'll make the NBA look even more at the level of the WWE, but imagine what a potential match-up with the Lakers would be like. All the story lines...You know Shaq wants to tie up Kobe again because of what he said after beating the Celts.

Looks like so, as long as you don't sign FA straight up with your cap. So, they might get both Miller and Fisher with the two exceptions, then filling the rest with min. contracts.

No, it doesn't. But the Heat still had enough left over under the cap to sign Miller thanks to the Beasley trade and the small paycuts that Wade, Bosh and James agreed to. And by doing sign-and-trades with Cleveland and Toronto, the startling salaries of those players will be slightly lower (since they'll get bigger raises) so that creates a little more cap room that they are planning on using on Haslem. Pretty creative way of managing cap space, though the sign-and-trades will cost them four first round draft picks.
