I just bought the 40gb PS3 brand new in the box for $300 on craigslist. The chance to get a Blu Ray player and a device that I could play sports video games was too hard to pass up for that price so I have unretired from video games.

Things I like that you can't deny: Blu Ray, the machine is quiet I mean I can't even hear it, media extender, wi-fi, internet browser, controller with no batteries

Don't Like: I went to Blockbuster to rent a game and the game selection for this console is a joke. that cannot be debated, but as long as I can play FIFA 08 I'll survive, the version of Xbox live is not close but one day who knows

When MS sent me back the loud piece of crap Xbox that put me over the edge. For the money I don't think I can go wrong. I can'
t believe I own a PS3. I feel like Nasser's bitch but at least I know it will work and it won't die on me. It is undeniable that this console is made way better than the 360.

Hahaha Tony! Toni! Tone! Unreal. My gamertag or whatever is AZCARDSSEC450. The machine is quite impressive. I just want some games. I'm getting FIFA today and some Halloween on Blu Ray.

Nice purchase. I used to have a 360 and got rid of it for a PS3. I couldn't be happier.

There are a pretty large chunk of good games coming out in March for PS3 (FF13, FF13vs, Metal Gear Solid 4)

You mean how cheesy the PS3 is? :D

Slowly but surely the number of people going to PS3 is happening.. Some, such as yourself, may be too stubborn to make the switch and be stuck with an inferior system for an eternity..

The sales numbers show the PS3 is a distant 3rd. So how slow is this transition going to be exactly? :D

Actually, the PS3 is not a bad system. It's just not the best and has a bad game library IMO. I wouldn't object at all picking up the PS3 once things improve. I had a PS1 and PS2 so I am not opposed based on the brand like some others.

Hey, I did the same thing last week for somewhat related reasons. Ironically, my PS3 has been freezing randomly. So I'll be exchanging it tomorrow.

We should start an "anonymous ps3 owner" club.

I would say after owning the 360 since launch and now a PS3 the only thing the 360 has on the PS3 is the library and Xbox Live. Hardware-wise the PS3 is lightyears ahead. If the Ps3 gets some decent games and drop to $300they would sell tons of these things.

First thing I did was charge the controller.

The system likes to randomly halt / freeze as I'm playing games.

It prolly knows your a cowboy fan.. deal with it..

:)

Did some research and I guess it's a problem with a (very) small number of 80gb systems. Pretty confident the new one will be fine.

Actually the the reason why some people say the systems are so evenly matched is because in some respects the PS3 has better hardware (CPU) and other respects (GPU/Memory usage) the 360 is better. For instance developers have to pull off all kinds of tricks to run games at higher then 30fps on the PS3. Games practically run "out of the box" on the 360 at 60 FPS.

It's no coincidence that many of the same games have looked better on the 360 or practically identical. That's why the PS3 has struggled. Games wise it's just a much more expensive system for the same quality games. Blu Ray wise people are not convinced that Blu Ray will win the format wars.

I hope the PS3 continues to come down in price. Sooner or later it will come down enough that I will have to pick one up just so I can play the PS3 exclusive titles. Not that their are very many now but they will come.

I'm going to buy either a PS3 or a 360 after the holidays. Right now I'm leaning towards the PS3 because of the bluray.

I got a PS3 for Christmas from the wife. I love it so far. Best buy offers an extended warranty on these for an extra 60 bucks. It has a year already but the extended makies it 2 years. Anoyone think I should go back and get the extended? I would hate for it to break at a year and a day and be out the 400.

So far, I would say no. The PS3 has been pretty solid.

Thanks...I have another question and it may need to be moved to tech forum. My tv is hd(1080p i believe) but the PS3 only comes with standard av cables. I heard that hdmi cables range greatly in price but it doesn't really affect the resolution unless you are wiring things at large distances. Is that true or does the cable quality matter. The guy at best buy was trying to tell me I had to get at least a 100 dollar hdmi cable to make the ps3 picture look any better. Also, does anyone know where to get a cheap hdmi cable?

Well, 2 or 3 years ahead anyway.

First of all the PS3 is going to be ahead because it was released more recently.

Also I , if I am not mistaken, the PS3 has hardware designed to go into a console game system while the XBOX is basically a PC in a console container.

Biggest factors working against the PS3 is probably the cost and the number of games available for it compared to the other consoles. Beyond that it doesn't have any downside that I can see.

The more that I get used to the PS3, the more I realize how much more it can really do than the 360.

1 - I've got 3 user accounts, 3 different PSN accounts (all free), and 3 different themes. (For me, my GF, and a guest acct.) I'm addicted to downloading themes. :)

2 - I've got a USB drive plugged directly into it that has all of my themes, videos, pictures, music, etc. I know the 360 can do this, sort of. But the PS3 handles it much better.

3 - I can browse the net on my HDTV. Didn't think I'd ever use this, but surprisingly I do.

4 - I've got a wireless USB KB / M hooked up to it.

5 - I haven't even used it as a blu-ray player yet. I'm planning on picking up 4-5 movies via eBay in the near future though.

6 - As I type this I'm installing Yellow Dog Linux. From some tutorials I've read I can installed NES / SNES / Genesis emulators and configure the PS3 controller to work. Yeah, its nothing special. But it's a fun project.

7 - It's got a REAL HD built in. I can upgrade it whenever I'd like for about 1/2 the price of the 360 20gb HD.

8 - Did I mention that the Playstation Network is free? Sure, it's not quite on par with Live. But hey, I can't complain too much about anything that's free. I don't really play online much. So I was essentially paying MS $82 a year to play COD4. (The only online game I play atm.)

"Home" looks like an interesting answer to the Live service. And apparently they're adding in game messaging / invites / etc. Once they do so, it will essentially be XBox Live without the fee.

All of the good 360 exclusives come to the PC anyways. So I'm not missing out TOO much. I know that I can always buy the PC version if something interests me. (Gears of War, Bioshock, Lost Planet, etc.)
