I have have DIRECTV with an HR-22 DVR. I recorded all of the Cardinals' playoff games including the Super Bowl (which I saw in person and could not myself watch it again). Includes all the TV time before and after the games too.

Unfortunately it is not working now and I have no idea if there is any possible way to save those games somehow.

Does anyone know of a way?

I am just sick about this.

Thanks

I know the feeling. When my TiVo went kaput a few months ago, I lost everything in there including all the playoff games and the SuperBowl. :(

It depends on why it is not working. If it's a Hard drive failure, then you might be out of luck. If it's another Hardware failure then the video is still on there. However, without modding another unit and installing that hard drive you would have a heck of a time getting that video off of it. Someone here might be able to help:

I want to copy some of the stuff on my dvr also - it was suggested I can get an external dvd burner and hook it up to the dvr and make copies that way.

What kind of hook up is needed, and has anyone done this with good results?

You will need one of the burners with a tuner. Like the set top boxes that record TV shows to DVD. Then you just hookup the video output on the source to the input on the burner.

The other option that is a lot more work (but cheaper if you already have a computer to do it) is to get a video capture device for your computer, play the show and record it on the computer, then burn a DVD from there.

I agree with the above. Just keep mind that if it's HD content, you will not get HD quality on the output. They do this on purpose to deter copies of HD content being shared.

Can we dumb this down for me? WAY down? I have DirecTV HD DVR, and I would like to be able to pull occasional episodes of TV shows I've recorded and burn to DVD -- not being HD is OK if that's undoable.

I have Nero Multimedia 10 on my computer. How can I get the show from the DVR storage to the computer? Do I really have to buy a separate DVD burner? I understand you can hook an external hard drive to expand storage on the DVR; does that open possible ways to copy, move to PC, and burn?

I don't have the DVR hooked up to my home computer network, but would that make copy-burn on the PC possible? (Reading on DirecTV they were very evasive, said it enables you to watch but not store shows.)

If the network offers full episodes on the PC, but supposedly not for download, is there a way to work around that? Is that what you mean by a video capture device, and what exactly would that be?

Thanks

There are flash video capture software programs but I can't say how those work with various streaming technologies.

For a capture device a NON-HD option would be something like this:

Pinnacle has a dazzle product that is similar.

For HD you would need a component input. I didn't find that in my short search this morning. Most HD is via an HDMI connection and they have restrictions I believe.
