Airline is looking for a boys basketball coach just two years after Cedric Washington took over the program.

Washington resigned Monday according to a news release from Vikings principal Justin James.

“The administration at Airline is grateful for coach Washington’s service to the school and community,” James said in the release.

Washington just said it was time to move on.

“Life is full of choices and decisions,” he told The Times. “I just decided to turn to the next page.”

Washington was 32-35 overall with a pair of playoff appearances in his time on Airline Drive. His Vikings upset a No. 5 seed in the playoffs.

Raised in Benton, Washington is a product of the Bossier Parish School System and he and his wife, Amy, have three children who have graduated from, or currently attend, Airline.

Washington began his career as the head boys and girls basketball coach at Rusheon Middle School. He tutored under Jeremiah Williams, now an administrator in the Bossier Schools system, and Eddie Hamilton, who coaches at Plain Dealing. Both are former Shreveport Times Coaches of the Year. Washington was on the Bossier staff of Williams' when the Bearkats won the 2016 LHSAA state title.

Hamilton’s final two teams at Airline went 16-10 and 18-14, respectively, advancing to the LHSAA playoffs both seasons.

Applications and resumes for the position should be sent to [email protected] by April 25.
