Since every team basically is scrambling to get contracts that will be up this summer, why doesn't a team with a bunch of potential cap space trade all of their expiring contracts for the "bad" contracts that will expire the following year. The Suns, for example, could have traded Gugliotta and McDysse for players with two years left and draft picks, then waited it out a year and had a bunch of draft picks and a bunch of capspace(including White).

Sorry, it just makes me laugh how unmovable players with two years let on their contracts will become hot traing commodities in a matter of months.

I'm not sure I would put it that way, but there a certain logic to it. A number of teams have been loading up on guys with one year deals which become prime trade material. Look at the way Skeets Wallace's contract worked.

Unless the luxury tax goes away, I think we will see a world of a tiny number of max contracts and a huge number of short term contracts (up to 3 years).

Apparently they are not anticipating there will be a luxury tax next season.

I would be so happy if the league and PA agreed on abolishing the luxary tax and shortening guaranteed contracts.

I really think that would go a long way in helping the league.

I see luxury tax as the owners biggest bargaining chip, which is why it has to be applied this year. Reducing the length of long term contracts and strengthening the team's right to exit (like the Baker deal) would be huge.
