Shanahan? Really?

He said he would only go to a contender..

Chiefs are years away from contending.

Gruden? Not so much.. Garcia just called him out on having a bad relationship with players.. On a young team like KC, i dont see that as being a good mix.

I think Haley is a goner

ESPN is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have finally pulled the trigger and fired Herman Edwards as their head coach. The move has been anticipated since Scott Pioli became the team’s G.M. on January 13th, although there was very little said publicly about the team’s plans until today. The list of possible candidates for the job has included names like Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, Cardinals assistant Todd Haley, former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, and current Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.Edwards was 15-34 in three seasons as Chiefs coach, including a loss in the playoffs following the 2006 season.

I think this is messed up. KC basically publicly used this year as a rebuilding year with third string QB and he gets fired for this mess?

How does using a 3rd string QB after the top two guys were put on IR part of a rebuilding process.

Herm is a bad coach who spent two years helping make that mess the had to deal with in year three.

Edward's team have gotten worse every year he was coaching them. Every year I am amzed again that he retains a HC job.

A fine gentleman, but better served as a coordinator...situation with Jets was not too great either

Haley is gone, not a whole lot of mystery here IMO. Gruden is an ass and everyone around him has pretty much always said that. Shanahan is an older version of Gruden. Haley is a Parcells/Belicheck guy and fits the bill for what Pioli is said to be looking for.

Thanks for everything Todd. You will always be a great Cardinal in my book.

Yeah - Him and Ty Willingham should get a two bedroom apartment and allow a fim cew to film their lives on a 24/7 basis.

It would be the next great reality TV show. :)

I wouldn't count out Bill Cowher either considering but Haley has to be pretty high up considering the connections and listening to what the new GM said he wanted I think Haley fits that pretty well.

Gruden, no, Mike S, I highly doubt it.

Chiefs are currently working out a contract for Mike Shanahan, so Shanahan is going to be their new coach. They wasted no time...

Don't count the chickens just yet. Here is what ESPN is reporting now:
The Chiefs have been in negotiations to land Shanahan as their next coach and a deal is near, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen
Granted it's Mortensen, but still....where there's smoke, there's fire.

Todd Haley leaving = No chemistry problems with Q.

Good?

Huh?

You gotta be kidding? I don't think this is quite the slam dunk. Word out of KC is Shanahan is the favorite per Sando's chat yesterday.

I hope they don't take him as I want him here one more year.

Do the mandatory minority interview requirements get waived if the outgoing coach is a minority?

Unless they did some sort of token interview with a minority that we havent heard about, If they hire Shanny right now they will have broke the Rooney rule. Firing a minoirty coach doesnt count towards the Rooney rule.
