Klowned by Keim
Is it worse to be bad or to be forgettable? The Cardinals have written themselves out of the national conversation. Before yesterday, their playoff odds were 0.2%. The Rams and Seahawks are both likely to make the playoffs, and the Cards have already lost to a variety of other Wild Card contenders, like the Cowboys.
Last week, Football Outsiders estimated the Cards to have a 42% chance of getting a top five pick in the draft. This feels high, but the Cards only have one opponent remaining with a losing record. The Cards aren’t even bad enough to be interesting.
These last eight games are going to be a slog. Our young players do not seem very good, and it’s likely to be more disappointing to key on them as we play out the string. Budda Baker is our most electrifying rookie, and he played eight defensive snaps.
Thankfully, we have Bryson Albright’s hair.
Corey Peters - A disruptive interior force who plays more snaps than most nose tackles, Peters is making a real case for a contract extension.
Tyrann Mathieu - The Honey Badger is not back — although you’ll hear that he is all week. Mathieu still showed that he can be effective playing near the line of scrimmage.
Kareem Martin - Has been strong setting the edge and could reap a nice compensatory selection next year. He’s earned 3rd down work.
Hasson Reddick - Matched up late against a backup OLT and did nothing. Very concerning to see so little from such a high pick.
Kerwynn Williams - An underrated indictment of Steve Keim is that he’s been unable to locate a better alternative to Williams throughout the NFL.
Troy Niklas - Just done with this guy. He offers little as a blocker and almost nothing as a receiver. Bring back Jim Dray.
