Klowned by Keim
I like Bruce Arians. I think he’s a better coach than Ken Whisenhunt. I think the players like him and feel like they’re treated fairly by him. I would like to see him keep his job because of these reasons.
This team — even at full strength — is one that would need a lot of help to make a Wild Card berth, must less win the division. You can’t afford to throw a challenge flag on the second play of the game without understanding that there’s no camera angle that shows what you saw.
When this team was good, we heard a lot about the “accountability board” — assuming that there were few names on it. Today, we don’t hear anything about it. Does the board still exist? Is it just the depth chart? Is there any doubt that despite mistakes on special teams — again — the same group of players will be trotted out again on Sunday?
Kerwynn Williams – He’s the third man on most depth charts in the NFL. It’s a testament to how deep the running backs are today that Williams could still gain nearly 100 yards.
Kareem Martin – Fun fact: Martin has not had a sack since his second NFL season. He’s been a solid presence this year in a two- and three-point stance, but is also the kind of player that GM Steve Keim has chosen to let walk in free agency.
Josh Bynes – How bad must Hasson Reddick and Scooby Wright be? Bynes came in off the street and is a more physical presence than Deone Bucannon, although he gives something up in pass coverage.
Tyrann Mathieu – Mathieu played 78 snaps yesterday between the defense and special teams. Maybe he’s trying to make up in quantity what he’s lacking in quality.
Hasson Reddick – Played just eight defensive snaps this week. On one of them, he got close to QB Jared Goff, but was unable to maintain a grip on the QB. The sign for hope was that the pass rush came from the interior.
Robert Nkemdiche – Played 14 defensive snaps and didn’t make much of an impact on any of them while also failing to make an appearance on the stat sheet. Was out-snapped by four defensive tackles, and two more (Corey Peters and Josh Mauro) were inactive.
