One quarter of the way through the season and almost 40% through our home schedule, we can say this about the Arizona Cardinals: They're a bad football team, but they're not an awful football team. I said in another thread that Steve Wilks reminds me more than a little of Greg Schiano — a coach who was more concerned about culture and discipline than game day tactics. I think you need both, but you get better faster with good tactical play.

What churns my stomach is people saying that we should just worry about a draft pick at this point. I refuse to live in a world where defeats are victories and victories are actually defeats. That is what really creates a poisonous culture that is as persistent as MRSA in the Tampa Bay lockerroom.

Josh Rosen, QB - I didn't really like cheering for Carson Palmer. I didn't really like cheering for Kurt Warner. I love cheering for Josh Rosen. I like his demeanor on the sidelines. I loved his ability to fit balls into impossible windows.

David Johnson, RB - One hundred all-purpose yards is pretty good. A fumble is bad. One of the things that was so remarkable about DJ in 2016 was that he was so successful (50% success rate) with a heavy load. The next step for #31 is to keep the offense ahead of the chains.

Arizona Cardinal Fans - Attendance at the game was low, but Start Farm Stadium is still a good home-field advantage and the Cards fans there did a great job getting loud and supported the team.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR - Some people are going to allow Fitz to have a bad game because he's had so many good ones. Nonsense. I guarantee #11 isn't letting himself off the hook. Maybe Fitz was stunned at some of the passes going his way, but he has to catch them and support a young QB.

T.J. Logan, RB - Dude, you have one job. Why do I have to watch Brandon Williams return kicks? You being godawful potentially forced Patrick Peterson into gunner responsibilities on the first punt return for reasons that make no sense.

Deone Bucannon, LB - Buc has gotten the worst of the scheme change. Because the DL are allowed to be aggressive, Buc has to flow to the football without protection from blockers. He just can't make that fight, so he either getting engulfed by guards or running himself out of plays. Sad!

Do not feel too bad for Bucannon, he was getting blown up by fullbacks WAY before offensive linemen start throwing him across the field.

FYI, Larry made good on your comment that he was not going to let himself off the hook with his performance: https://www.arizonasportsfans.com/forum/threads/how-to-be-a-professional-101.282919/

And I understand why Phil Dawson is not a goat as well, because when you suck it is expected you will suck. Relying on Dawson to make a late game field goal is a coaching mistake, IMHO. You do not put the blind man on lookout.

TJ on the goats list? Come on man!
Blame the coaches for not activating him.

I really like the kid to be a good contributor on a team that will use him. He’s elusive fast & has skills in all phases of the game. Loved him college

I noticed Rosen's demeanor on the sideline as well. In fact, I was watching him before the game spinning the ball and talking to players and coaches and the dude just drips leadership and confidence. And he is having fun doing it. I know it's "too early" but man did he check the boxes on everything and then some.

I agree with this. It's not like you can turn a whole team over from one year to the next, so a lot of the guys you are happy are totally sucking this year will be around to probably totally suck for you next year too. I'm all for playing and assessing younger talent when it is clear you are going nowhere - even if that younger talent is not as ready to play now as some others who are not in your future plans - but I'm hoping everyone on the field performs well, as that will mean a lot more for our future than the next unproven commodity.

I think Wilks knows this. But seem to not execute it when game is on the line. One reason is Wilks may be pressing too much to get that first win. I think Bidwill needs to go to him and say just R-E-L-A-X.

Agree w/ K9 in that Rosen is someone you can cheer for. Not sure I quite understand how Kurt and Carson were hard to cheer for as both were very good to great QBs for this team. I was #TeamLeinart during the QB competition but was quick to support Kurt when he was anointed the starter.

+1

Once Warner started playing 1-armed, and had to back hand, hand off to running backs, he had my support for life.

You didn't like cheering on Palmer and Warner? What do you mean by that? You wish they weren't Cards QBs?

Meanwhile, McCrane nailed a game winner for Oakland.

for me..its as simple as this.

they were both retreads...not cardinals

Kurt was a ram castoff and carson was the guy who threw a fit against cincinatti

Josh Rosen is a cardinal from day one.... that has value...with a QB just like with Fitz

we drafted him, we are growing him, and we should get to enjoy him for the next twenty years....fifteen at least, lol.

I have always preferred the homegrown guys over free agents

not to say I didnt like Kurt or Carson, both great guys who did some fantastic things for this team

Perhaps my standards are lower, but any player, retread or otherwise, who helps my team win ballgames is someone I'll cheer for. Bertrand Berry was a two-time retread and became a mainstay for this organization; and is still to this day in other ways.

Bert Berry, one of the best FA signings ever (when comparing what we paid him to what he produced on the field) by the Cardinals, and was at the very beginning of the culture turn-around for the organization.

Nice call TJ.

And missed a GW before that!

Kickers are crazy folk.

So, the current kicker for the Raiders missed a few FG but nailed the game winner, and the ex-kicker for the Raiders missed a few FG but nailed the game winner.

The Cardinals kicker did what they do the best, choked. Don't matter what the name on the back of the jersey is, Cardinals kickers choke, and hard.

Loved watching B-Train. We lacked a pass rush for so long before he got there, it was so crazy to see someone actually rush the passer with some efficiency.

Amen I said the same thing yesterday. It’s a curse!
Dawson is one of the best 10 kickers in league history & has choked repeatedly in Cardinals red
