If Talib is on the board at 16... hes the obvious pick......
But he won't be, and Stewart is a solid pick....
Talib was available. You can debate this at walterfootball.com/forum as well.
We're may restart, and we will certainly limit trades.
Considering James rushed for 1,200 yds picking Stewart or any RB does not improve the team the way a #1 pick should for next year. I want the playoffs next year not in 2-3 years. Marginal improvement at RB at best for next year. Does not address a defense that allowed 3rd most points in NFC. Offense scored 3rd most. Teams gets plenty of points.
The RB position is the easist position to pick up in the NFL. So picking up a runningback in the 2nd or 3rd round would be a good move by the Cardinals. Personally I feel the Cardinals should pick up an DL or a OL in the first round.
I will make the arguement that Reggie Bush is a bust as a #1. For a #1 RB I want Barry Sanders, Earl Campbell or Ottis Anderson. 1,200+ yds a season rushing, 20+ carries a game for 4+ yds per carry , can run the ball inside or outside and catches passes.
The guy selected Stewart. Comments?
So basically be very very slightly better than what Edge has been in YPC for us and the same otherwise?
I think James is perfectly serviceable. He is like my car. It is a 2000 BMW 323 coupe. I have held on to it too long for it to make sense to trade it in. I am better off driving it till the wheels fall off because the trade in is not that great compared to trading it in a couple years ago. Nobody sees any trade value in James but he gives us 1,200 yards.
The difference between 3.8 and 4.4 a carry over a season or career is huge. Anderson in his Cards yrs between 79 and 86 rushed for 4.3 yards a carry. If James had only played in AZ he would not be a HOF back. He is good enough so that all resources should be focused on greater needs. Someday it would be nice to have another Ottis Anderson. Not next year.
I am hesitant to list backs to show the failures of high picks in the NFL because you can always find failed players to illustrate any point you want. I will make the arguement that Reggie Bush is a bust as a #1. For a #1 RB I want Barry Sanders, Earl Campbell or Ottis Anderson. 1,200+ yds a season rushing, 20+ carries a game, can run the ball inside or outside and catches passes.
However, There have been many early RB picks who have failed. Jones, Arrington in AZ, Benson, Ricky Williams, etc.
I think you find the best prospects you can at a position you need and hope for the best. I would think linemen would have a very shallow learning curve too. I think because so many RBs are being tauted it is driving people in that direction. RBs have shorter careers on average than linemen and this team really needs to find a way to limit opponent points. Imagine this team's record if it had allowed 25% fewer points. Every resource should be used on improving the defense. If I went offense it would be linemen.
