Apr. 15—CANTON — Ogdensburg Free Academy coach Brooks Brenno knew that his baseball team would need a staunch pitching effort for Monday's Northern Athletic Conference Central Division matchup against Canton.

His projection came true and the combination of Lucca LaBella and Madden West was right on point as the Blue Devil duo prevailed in a classic duel with the Bears' Zadock Roiger for a 1-0 win to stay unbeaten atop the Central standings at 3-0.

Making his first start of the season, Lucca LaBella struck out five, pitching five scoreless innings after allowing a first-inning single by Jackson Ames. Madden West closed with two scoreless innings and pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh after OFA plated the lone run of the day in the top of the seventh.

LaBella scored the lone run with a one-out single, took third on a sacrifice by Cam Griffith and scored on a long triple to left field by Nicholi Ramsdell.

Roiger went the distance for Canton, striking out 10 in a three-hitter where he struck out 10 and walked none while throwing just 72 pitches.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 10, CARTHAGE 0

The Spartans' David Lohrmann and Drew Peters combined on a five-inning no-hitter in the shorted Frontier League game against the Comets in Adams.

Lohrmann pitched the first four innings, striking out two and walking one. Peters pitched the fifth with one strikeout.

Nate Matteson and Billy Winchester each went 2-for-3 for South Jefferson (2-2), with Matteson tripling and Winchester driving in two runs. Grant Clark and Ryker Pennock knocked in two runs apiece with a hit each. Connor Mothersell hit a triple.

LOWVILLE 10, WATERTOWN 0

Devin Swiernik delivered a one-hitter and the Red Raiders broke out with a 10-run sixth inning for the Frontier League win over the Cyclones (1-1) in Watertown.

Swiernik struck out four, walked two and hit a batter. He also supplied a hit on offense and drove in two runs.

Eli Gronowski went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for Lowville (1-2). Aydin Waugh also was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dominik Swiernik added two hits and walked twice. Brycen Villiere added a hit and two RBIs. Ethan Zehr had a hit and an RBI.

GENERAL BROWN 7, INDIAN RIVER 4

Owen Dupee supplied two hits, including a double, and two RBIs and Jackson Keefer went 2-for-2 with two RBIs as the Lions topped the Wolves in a Frontier League game in Philadelphia.

Brody Watson reached base three times with a double and two walks as General Brown (1-1) scored six times in the second inning. Lucas Doldo added a single and two RBIs. Kael Hoselton also had a single and an RBI.

Lions starter Brock McManaman pitched four innings, allowing six hits and striking out three.

ALEXANDRIA 5, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 1

Nathan Hoffman tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-hit ball as the Purple Ghosts defeated the Panthers in a Frontier League clash in Belleville.

Hoffman allowed five walks and struck out 10. Kalman Trickey completed the game with 1 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out one.

Bradley Robbins went 2-for-3 for Alexandria (2-0) with an RBI. Charlie Gorman hit a double.

SACKETS HARBOR 10, LYME 0

Ethan Shi and Damon Serow each went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs as the Patriots blanked the Lakers in a Frontier League game in Sackets Harbor.

Serow also pitched the victory for Sackets Harbor (2-0), tossing 4 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven. Luke Peters finished up the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking two.

Jake Peters scored four times, reaching base on a single and three walks.

SOUTH LEWIS 21, LAFARGEVILLE 0

The Falcons scored 12 runs in the first inning to cruise to the five-inning Frontier League win over the Red Knights in LaFargeville.

Jackson McCall provided two hits, including a double, and knocked in three runs. Noah Dailey also doubled and drove in three runs. Robert Dailey went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for South Lewis (2-2). Case Allen doubled and drove in two runs. Shan McManus and Connor Carpenter also drove in two runs each.

Maddox Morrison, Allen and Noah Dailey combined on a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 3, COPENHAGEN 1

The Vikings (1-1) limited the Golden Knights (0-6) to a pair of hits and scored all their runs in the sixth inning to claim the Frontier League victory in Clayton.

BEAVER RIVER 18, PULASKI 1

Kade Schneider went 3-for-3 and stole five bases as the Beavers totaled 15 hits in a nonleague victory over the Blue Devils in Pulaski.

Mason Farney added two hits and an RBI and Samuel Miller went 2-for-2. Ayshur and Brit Dicob each doubled for Beaver River (3-0).

Carter Rice pitched four innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.

SOFTBALL

LOWVILLE 13, CARTHAGE 0

Freshman pitcher Samantha Jock struck out 17 batters en route to the no-hit victory as Lowville blanked Carthage in a Frontier League game in Lowville.

Alyssa Millard paced the offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and scoring three times. Kara Macaulay drove in two runs for the Raiders (2-0).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 10, INDIAN RIVER 6

Natalie Vancoughnett doubled twice, drove in a run and pitched the victory for the Spartans in a Frontier League win against the Wolves in Philadelphia.

Bryanna Moroughan went 3-for-4 for South Jefferson and scored twice. Emalea Lohrmann supplied a double, single and drove in three runs. Remissa Stephens added two hits and Elizabeth Hobbs knocked in three runs. Riley Monroe doubled and provided two RBIs.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 5, COPENHAGEN 1

Annah Johnson delivered two hits and two RBIs and Melanie Wiley tossed a two-hitter in the Vikings' Frontier League victory against the Golden Knights (3-3) in Clayton.

Wiley, who struck out 15 batters and walked six, also struck two hits at the plate and drove in a run for Thousand Islands (3-0). Tatum Wiley went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Addison Swenson added a hit and an RBI.

SACKETS HARBOR 15, LYME 3

Lily Green supplied two hits and an RBI and scored twice in the Patriots' Frontier League victory against the Lakers in Sackets Harbor.

Brooklyn Smith, Katelynn McKeever and Emily Young added a hit and an RBI for Sackets Harbor (1-2). Kaelynd Brouillette pitched the win, allowing one hit and striking out four in 4 2/3 innings.

BEAVER RIVER 11, SOUTH LEWIS 8 (8)

The Beavers (4-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim the Frontier League win against the Falcons (0-4) in Beaver Falls.

GENERAL BROWN 11, HOLLAND PATENT 0

Haley Parker hit three doubles and added a single and Raegan Burgenstock pitched a three-hit shutout as the Lions won at home over the Golden Knights in a nonleague game.

Burgenstock struck out eight batters and was supported by four-run rallies by General Brown (2-1) in the first and fifth innings. Raylyn Carr went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Carlee Hamilton and Raegan Sharp each doubled and knocked in a run.

BRUSHTON-MOIRA 14, COLTON-PIERREPONT 7

Lillie Robideau pitched the victory for the Panthers, striking out four through five innings as Brushton-Moira topped Colton-Pierrepont in an NAC East Division victory in Brushton.

Aryiah Clark led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, and Lily Jones added a triple and three RBIs for the Panthers. Paige Johnson knocked in a run and stole two bases.

Carli Friedel supplied two hits for Colton-Pierrepont. Katherine Hanifan reached base four times with a hit and three walks. Ariana Clark added two hits.

BOYS LACROSSE

INDIAN RIVER 12, IMMACULATE HEART 2

Zachary McMahon and Nathan Taylor each supplied two goals and two assists in the Wolves' Frontier League win over the Cavaliers (0-2) in Philadelphia.

Connor Ault also scored two goals for Indian River. Colton White, Gavin Hunter, Caiden Elliot, Jeffrey Weatherwax and Timothy Heath contributed a goal each.

Aaron Russell made 14 saves in goal for the Wolves (2-4).

GIRLS LACROSSE

CARTHAGE 15, VERON-VERONA-SHERRILL 3

Isabelle Wormwood headed the offense with seven goals as the Comets rolled past the Red Devils in a nonleague game in Verona.

Macie Hancock followed with three goals and two assists for Carthage (3-3). Cadence Jones contributed a goal and two assists. Rori Gebo, Ella Marriott, McKinley Hancock and Isabela Bigelow finished with a goal each.

Carthage's Mattingly Dorchester saved four shots in goal.

Sofia Sherwood scored twice for VVS (3-2). Hannah Kinne also scored.

MARCELLUS 15, GENERAL BROWN 14

Sophia Pilan and Avery Shute each scored six goals as the Mustangs outlasted the Lions in a nonleague game in Dexter.

Cecilia Powell added a pair of goals and Quinn Child scored once for Marcellus (2-2).

Tricia Price provided five goals and an assist for General Brown (5-3) and Natalia Farr scored twice and assisted on four others.

Kaydence Young contributed two goals for the Lions and Claire Ramie finished with a goal and an assist. Alivia Cross also scored.

Emma House made 15 saves in goal for General Brown. Mia Caryl saved 14 shots for the Mustangs.

VICTOR 21, WATERTOWN 7

The Blue Devils jumped out to the early lead en route to the nonleague victory over the Cyclones in Watertown.

Delaney Callahan recorded two goals and an assist for Watertown (4-2), and Julia Covey scored twice. Alena Clough had a goal and an assist. Adriana Arthur and Mya Brown scored once apiece.
