High School Roundup: Putnam and Shultz power top-ranked Liberty Union over Falcons

Liberty Union 19, Fairfield Union 0 (5 innings
): Suzie Shultz was unhittable in the circle. Emmalee Putnam put on a hitting clinic to help the Lions win a Mid-State League-Buckeye Division over the Falcons.

Liberty Union, ranked No. 1 in the state in Division V, improved to 15-1 overall.

Shultz fired a no-hitter and finished with 13 strikeouts in five innings. The Lions scored 11 runs in the first inning and finished with 16 hits, led by Putnam, who went 4 for 4, including two home runs, a double, three runs and nine RBIs. Addi Osterman had three hits, including two doubles and a home run, and Haeden Brunty went 3 for 3 and scored three runs.

Liberty Union 13, Granville 5: The Lions went on the road and picked up a nonconference win over the Blue Aces.

Freshman Eden Wilson went the distance in the circle, giving up four runs, three earned, five hits and striking out 14. Payton Hochradel led the offense by going 4 for 4. Wilson had three hits, including two doubles and a home run. Ryleigh Brown hit a home run, and Brunty and Osterman added two hits each.

Berne Union 29, Wellington 2 (5 innings): The Rockets cruised in their MSL-Cardinal Division win over the Jaguars.

Josilyn Hedges went 3 for 3, including a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs. Rylee North had three hits, including a double, triple, five RBIs and three runs. Sophia Williams had two hits and five RBIs, Lauryn Kuhn had two hits and scored five runs, and Aleah Smiley had two hits and four RBIs. Reese Beco picked up the win in the circle, giving up two earned runs in four innings.

Madison Christian 14, Berne Union 8: The Rockets fell short in their nonconference loss.

Josilyn Hedges went 3 for 4, including a double, a home run, and five RBIs, and Rylee North had two hits, including a triple and three runs. Reese Besco pitched five innings, giving up five earned runs.

BASEBALL

Liberty Union 3, Fairfield Union 1:
Robert Savage pitched six innings, giving up three hits, one run while striking out 11 to help lead the Lions to a MSL-Buckeye Division win over the Falcons.

Wellington 6, Berne Union 4 (8 innings): The Rockets came up short in their MSL-Cardinal Division loss to the Jaguars.

Clayton Moore pitched eight innings, gave up two hits, one earned run, while striking out 13. Williams Bolton, Clayton Moore, Colton Moore and Ethin Redinger all had one hit each.

Amanda-Clearcreek 9, Hamilton Township 4: Gary Kemmerling pitched five-plus innings, giving up four hits and one run.

Kemmerling, Breece Stone and Nick Holland finished with two hits each.

Fairfield Christian Academy 26, Millersport 1: AJ Holbrook had four hits and five RBIs to help lead the Knights to a MSL-Cardinal Division win over the Lakers.
