Southeast shone at the plate in its 2025 opener, topping host Rootstown 10-8 in Monday's nonleague softball game.
The Pirates (1-0) scored in each of the first four innings, erupting for three runs apiece in the fourth and sixth. Morgan Muncy and Ava Stephens each had multiple extra-base hits, with Muncy going 3 for 4 with a double and a homer and Stephens going 3 for 3 with two doubles.
Lilly Kamenash homered for the Rovers (0-1), going 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while both Katie Sisley and Reise Thomas singled and doubled.
Newton Falls 5, Waterloo 4 (8)
The Vikings fell in extra innings despite two singles apiece from Bayley English and Brooke May. Freshman Jolene Hampton impressed in the circle for Waterloo with a 14-strikeout complete game.
