Nice run what did he get there 11 or 12 yards....must have been the only good run of the night for TH.

I was wondering what that was as well... I think they seriously need to rethink the use of those, I am pretty surprised that it failed that way. I understand the benefits and I am sure an imploding shield is rare but man the debris could really do some damage to the guys who are not wearing shields...

Dude, we got it! Hightower had a bad game. We are all aware the running game didnt do much last night.

As I said in another thread, we're a team that uses the short pass in lieu of a running game...precicely because we're not very good at running the ball no matter who's back there.

That said, in this type of game Edge would have gotten around the same yardage as TH, he just would have gotten it differently. He would have gotten it 1 and 2 yards at a time, not had as many runs for losses but laso not made as much of the positive plays.

Also worth pointing out, some of the detractors of the switch to TH mentioned that their biggest fear was TH missing pass blocking assignments. He was flawless in that aspect last night.

Yep, there was one play where JJ was in and he had to come from the right side of the formation to try and block a middle blitzer. He was late there and the guy got a good hit on Kurt, but Kurt got it off for a nice gain. Other than that I really didn't notice much difference in the pass blocking. They were getting hits on Kurt but usually against our OL, not against the RB's.

Edge and Shaq still have talent left to offer its sad that some of your are so desperate to find a young stud RB your willing to toss aside the one thats proven. The problem is they are not just making TH the starter they are totally saying screw you to Edge by giving him no playing time. And I am inclined to believe last night the last few times we had the ball would have been perfect Edge time get the yards and run the clock out.

I just don't get how you guys think a back that had one good carry out of 13 or 14 touches for a total of 22yrds in A WHOLE GAME against the niners is better than the experience vet whom put up triple digits rushing on this same defense. Whatever I guess some of you are the same that wanted Shipp to start for so long, you see what you want to and you all aparently think TH is a star in the making.

It doesn't click with you guys that our offense has more struggles the last few games staying on the field? No gains and losses on running plays really hamper this offense, but you guys seem to feel a 10-15 yrd run once every 10 times the guy runs the ball makes it all ok. Sorry I feel Edge getting 3-4 every time he touches the ball puts us in much better down and distances which is why our offense seem to function better before TH. Go back and watch the last 2 games you tell me how many 3rd and longs we keep getting!

Pariah you are correct. This is not a running team and has not been all year. Our coach wants us to be a running team but our strength is with our all pro QB and all pro receivers in Fitz and Boldin. Who do we have that is anywhere near an all pro runner or an all pro offensive lineman to help make an all pro runner. If coach wants us to be a running team he is going to have to add another big power back and the OL must come together to be like our line when Dierdorf was there.

Yes, we very much use the short pass in lieu of a running game and it works with the likes of Warner and perhaps the best group of receivers in all of the NFL. What will likely keep this team from advancing to the superbowl is a lack of a big time defense. We are one of the most explosive offensive teams in the NFL. Without Boldin and Warner we would really suck and that is a possibility next year if we do not have enough money to keep them. This year is our best chance in many years to go deep into the playoffs even without a running game and a strong defense. Warner not only throws strikes but calls the plays. Not many guys around who can do that. Not many Boldins or Fitz's around either. We usually suck when we draft but Denny Green left us a real legacy with Fitz and how we got Boldin I will never know.

it looked like it was part of hightowers helmet - you could see a chip in it when he was walking back to the sideline and the stuff that came up was white like the paint

Hightower was mediocre at best last night.

let me start by saying, i don't think hightower is a great back. i think he's a servicable nfl back. better than edge at this stage, but still only servicable. that said, our o line cannot run block. they are putrid. last night's game only further added fuel to that fire imo. and we saw it again at the end of the game when we couldn't run out the clock. THAT is why i continue to argue that we are great SCORING offense, but not yet a truly great OFFENSE, b/c there is more to the game than just scoring to make an offense great, as odd as that sounds. and it ultimately comes back to the o line.

SF had 8 to 9 in the box all night.

They sold out to stop the run; result = Warner 320 + 3 TD.

Why did they do this, you ask? They seemed to decide to stop the run and try to get to warner with lots of blitz stuff.

They did smack him around, two roughing penalties; but the grey-beard made them pay and did not give them the TO's they were looking for.

It wasn't a visor, it was the multiple layers of paint on TH helmet that exploded upon impact. After it exlpoded you could see the off white coloring of the helmet were the paint was missing.

niners are lousy overall but don't they rank pretty good against the run?
