And all of these were mistakes, IMO. They were all given low tenders...I think Hill and Bell could now be signed away from us, and I doubt Kasper was worth tendering at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if Renaldo went elsewhere with the way he played last year. Many teams would be willing to give up a 7th rounder to pick up a guy who will be an pretty good nickel guy or a serviceable starter.

So it looks like we're going to have to draft another CB or pick up somebody else in FA. Can somebody explain to me why we offer unproductive players like Gilmore and Barrett contract extensions (thankfully only Gilmore accepted his), then lowball one of the few defensive players who actually made plays? If anyone should have gotten offered a contract extension it's Renaldo.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Cardinals have the right to match any offer that these guys would receive. If they don't match, the compensation would be a 7th for Hill and a 4th for Bell to match their respective draft positions.

So in essence, the Cardinals may be banking on other teams negotiating the contracts for them. Maybe the Cardinals feel that they don't want to give them any more money then they have to, but if other teams decide to pony up some cash, the Cardinals could then decide if it is worth matching.

Just a thought.

Personally, I thought that Hill would be given at least the second level tender.

With Hill we would get a 7th rounder in compensation for him if we dont match the offers if any that come in for him. IMO depending in the offers given to him Ithink we will match it depending on how FA goes.

With Bell we would get a 4th rounder in compensation. To tell you the truth I would let him go in a heart beat for a 4th rounder. Because IMO we can get a comparable guy that is younger, more upside and cheaper.

Kasper would get us a 6th rounder. I have the same thoughts about Kasper that I already wrote about Bell.

With all of our RFA tenders we now have $16,408,000 left to spend in free agency with no UFA that need to be locked up except for maybe Barrett.

Plus I looked up rookie cap space of the past that were in our position and the amount will be about 5.3 mil. Giving us a final total of $11,108,000 left to spend on FA's.

see us matching Hill offers

I think it is a good move with Hill, letting other teams decide his cost and then we can match it if we agree. I'm kinda up in the air with Bell. I like Bell last year more than a guy like Tanner or Russell Davis, though no one can accuse Davis of never giving his all. Sometimes your all isn't enough to keep a job, whether its Davis or Wakefield. This is the NFL and McGinnis's Cardinals are in for a rude awakening.

Hill probably got the low tender offer because of the market for CB's this year. Its a deep draft for CB's from what I have read and a ton of quality CB's becoming unrestricted FA's. With the offseason market looking like that, the demand for a solid nickel back will be low. So the Card's offer the low amount, match any low offers and look to pick up some other CB's. If Hill beats the new ones out in camp they give him a bigger contract extension during the season.
Seems like a smart way to handle the salary cap to me.
