Some say Shaq was sulking in Miami, and not that injured. He was playing in Phoenix pretty quickly after he was traded.

I would say the training staff proved that false. Their initial evaluation of Shaq was that he was having some serious strength issues in certain parts of his body which was causing him issues. Shaq looked better this year then he did last year as well.

They might be a little overrated as a medical staff, but I believe they must be doing something right when the players themselves give credit to the staff for helping them feel great. And I'm guessing the training staff was not using the same methods of core training and stretching they are using now. That seems to be relatively new.

Agreed. Even Shaq called the Suns staff "unorthodox". He has seen many a training staff over his career.

As for Grant, I may be the only one who really wants to have him back given the direction the team seems to be taking. If he really wants to come back here and play, I would welcome him back with open arms. His role may be reduced, but I think that's fine. I can't think of any veteran that would be better suited to have on a team full of youngsters if the Suns go that route.

I'd be fine with this.

The Suns have the best medical staff in the NBA and I think Hill just wants to play basketball, which he is extremely passionate about. Not sure if winning is really a priority for him. He's not a stat padder either, he just wants to ball.

They're going to need it if this is the direction they're headed, but this will be a target rich environment for vbookie betting. :)

Some of you really overrate our medical staff. Where were they when Penny and Googs were in town?

There are some things NO medical staff can fix. You know how bad Googs' injury was, right? Randy Livingston fell onto his knee, for chrissakes! And didn't Penny not have any cartiledge left on his knee before he got here?

But I look at Amare's recovery from microfracture, Shaq's rejuvenation, and yes, the fact that Grant Hill played in more games this past year than AT ANY TIME IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER makes a big difference and is a testament to our training staff. Overrated or not, they are the best in the league.

I love Hill, but I'd rather see him move on. I'd like Dudley and Clark to get time at the 3. Playing Hill 30 minutes a game does nothing for us long term.

:yeahthat: I'd rather see him play for a contender.

(As long as it's not the Spurs off course.)

If he really wants to come back I'm fine with that. Like Rab pointed out, as long as he accepts a lesser role there'd be no better veteran presence I'm sure.

Good luck Grant!!

He already bolted from a bleak situation to play for a title contender. Funny that the bleak situation from which he bolted turned into a title contender whereas the Suns are a mess.

He should just stay in Phoenix.

Agreed, you're not even mentioning McDyess, who almost completely credits the training staff with the rejuvenation of his career. It's just a shame the Suns didn't find a way to keep him around, as he was an excellent foil to Amare.

I am however, interested to hear anyone's thoughts on the pro's and cons of bringing Grant Hill back.

Pros- He'll be cheap, productive and is probably the best defender on the team.

Cons- He's old, oft injured and could take time away from players that need to develop.

In a van...down by the river.
Grant Hill will take alot of minutes away from Dudley and Clark.
I don't like this.^
These youngsters can learn alot from having a Grant Hill in the lockerroom.
They can also learn alot by playing heavy minutes and learning by doing.
Then again the SUNS still haven't come out and said we're rebuilding so if we're going to try to makes the playoffs next year and put an undo amount of pressure on this roster then fine....Hill should return.
I'd rather not go that way. I'd like to see Dragic,Barbosa,Dudley,Clark,Amare,Midget Clown get heavy minutes so we know what we've got going into '2010 and can react accordingly.

:thumbup::thumbup:

Most definitely. If Grant wants a ring, Godspeed back to Orlando or LA or Cleveland. He's earned it.

If he wants to hang in Phx, bring him back. He's a heck of a professional, and he's played great the last two years. If we do start to rebuild, he's exactly the kind of role model you want for young players.

Guy could have hung them up years ago and retired to an insurance contract, but he love playing the game. Dude like that is actually kinda rare in the league and someone the next round of pros need to learn from.

Besides...if we don't get our 2010 draft pick back from OKC somehow, we need to make the playoffs. A healthy Grant Hill can help that cause.

I can't believe we're interested in bringing back McDyess.

Funny thing is I think it would be the 1st contract he signed with us.

If I wasn't so humbled from our team sucking, and the yearning to hold onto one more .500 season before a high probability of long term suckage, I would tell McDyess to suck an egg. But we need help, a lot of it. I'm already sick of losing.

Didn't he sign a 1 year deal with us the first time around? I don't remember trading for him.

Yes, we traded for him. It was a pretty big trade at the time, and all we gave up were draft picks if I remember correctly. I miss those days when we actually got the better end of a trade. Of course it didn't work out so well in the long run.

I know Memphis is under the cap so they could trade a pick for a large contract, but I don't think they'll help us out by taking on $13 million in salary and give us a first round pick to boot. Plus they have Mayo at the 2 right now. They could use a back-up 2 guard for sure, but I think they could find a competent back-up cheaper than $13 million.
