Truly sad.

Hawks’ Collier dies of apparent heart attack

By Chris Vivlamore | Saturday, October 15, 2005, 11:34 AM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Atlanta Hawks center Jason Collier died early Saturday morning of an apparent heart attack. He was 28.

Collier experienced chest pains and his wife performed CPR and called 911.

Hawks players were notified of Collier’s death at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning before a scheduled workout was cancelled.

Collier, who played at Georgia Tech, was the longest tenured Hawk player, joining the team for the 2003-04 season after spending three seasons in Houston.

Wow, that sucks for him and his entire family, but at least he got to live the NBA dream and play a few years before his time came.

Did anybody else notice he was the Hawks' longest tenured player after only two seasons with the team? That's a sure sign of a pathetic team and ownership.

well this just went to help prove paxson case with curry and him taking a dna test.

Hate to get OT here, but care to tell me how this proves Paxson's case? Do we yet know if Jason had any heart problems?

Scotsman13, what do you do for a living? Do you think that it is right for your employer to ask for a DNA test if you were applying for a new job? What if taking that DNA test, they found out that you have a 2% chance of having a heart attack? What if they somehow found a "speeding" gene that said that you are more likely to speed when driving down the road, raising the possibility of you getting into an accident? (I know there is no speeding gene, but I hope you get my point.)

I just dont see how this someone prove that Paxson was "right" in forcing Curry to take the test. The DNA test that he was going to take is not conclusive anyway.

If your job is physically strenuous like an NBA player and the team has invested millions of dollars into you, they should be allowed to perform a DNA test. Just about every person on this board, with a few exceptions are probably very replaceable at their job, which is why we will never see Gattica like DNA tests at our jobs.

for me i work for intel telling people how to build computers. the reason that this backs up paxsons statement about getting curry to take a dna test is because if they knew that there was a problem they can take steps in moniter and insure if there is a problem they are prepared to handle it. it has nothing to do with what a player so make or if they can do the job but it is all about being prepared if a problem comes up in an envoriment that would possibly lead to a greater chance of problems.

today they have defibulors for your home, would it have made a differance with collier? maybe. if he had asperin there would it have help? well yea we know that your chances of staying alive after a heart attack happens is greatly increased if you have this things handy.

The DNA test that they asked him to take would have been inconclusive as admitted by the Bulls' doctors. What does he (Curry) have to benefit other than his own piece of mind as to take the test? If the test would have conclusively told Paxson and the Bulls that he would get the disease, I would have been much more for it.

I also work in the IT industry. I understand the concept of protecting your investments, disaster recovery, etc., however I do not feel that this one should have been forced, without proof that such a test would be conclusive.

However, I also think that Paxson made the right move in trading Curry. As an employer, you have the right to not hire someone if you do not feel that there is a possibility that he may not be able to do the job for the length of the contract.
