I realize that many of our starters won't be playing, so I'm wondering who does everyone think I should be watching closely on Thursday? Naturally, I'm interested in the CB position, and I'm assuming that PP won't play or play much. And with him not in the game, we should expect passes thrown to both sides of the field, and hopefully someone steps up. In the Red-White 'game', Gabbert was not good, and will he be any better?

At RB Penny vs Williams vs Logan seems worth following. On the OL, is Boehm locked in at RG? Will any of the backups stand out, whether in a good or a bad way?
At WR, Williams and Hogan, both new, should be worth watching.

On defense, I want to see if Robert Nkemdiche is anywhere near as good as the hype. Was Budda Baker worth the second round pick?

Who else?

I'm actually curious to see how TJ Logan looks in the return game. Possibly even as a PR?

Battles that I'm interesting in seeing Thursday:

Offense:

QB - Stanton vs Gabbert - Stanton has the edge on knowledge of the playbook & familiarity with the players/coaches. Gabbert has the edge on arm strength, accuracy & mobility.

RB - Wide open behind DJ & CJ. I think Logan is a lock too. That's 1 spot (maybe 2) for Penny, Kerwynn Williams & Andre Ellington. Summers maybe to the PS (if not Penny).

WR - John & Jaron Brown... do they look as good as hyped coming off injuries? I want to see Chad Williams play well. My Locks - Fitz, Jo. Brown, Ja. Brown, JJ Nelson, Chad Williams. 1 spot between Brittan Golden, Jeremy Ross, Larry Clark, Carlton Agudosi & Krishawn Hogan. Aaron Dobson has a hamstring injury, but is still in the mix if he recovers quickly.

TE - Lock - Gresham. 2-3 spots open for Niklas, Momah, Valles, Christian or a FA like Barnidge. Really hoping Niklas & Momah stay healthy this year.

Defense:

DL - Nkemdiche & Pierre. Has Gunter taken a step forward? We know what everyone else can do.

ILB - Pretty sure Dansby isn't playing, but I want to see Reddick. Beyond Reddick, there is a battle for the 4th ILB spot between Gabe Martin, Phillip Wheeler & Scooby Wright. Dansby, Bucannon & Reddick are locks.

OLB - Jarvis Jones & Kareem Martin... can either of them be counted on to take 15-20% of the backup snaps behind Golden & C. Jones?

CB - Bethel is still out until early next week. Bouka is back practicing again so we should get to see a decent amount of him out there. Also, Brandon Williams, Tramon Williams (maybe), Sojourn Shelton, Rudy Ford & Harlan Miller will see time at CB. Hopefully someone steps up.

S - Budda Baker, Harlan Miller & Rudy Ford. Mathieu, Bethea & Budda Baker are locks. Tyvon Branch should/could be a lock. Do we keep 4 or 5 (probably 5) so do we try to get Rudy Ford to the PS?

Special Teams:

KR/PR - Logan showing any kind of ability pretty much guarantees his roster spot.

Kick coverage & blocking will be hard to judge in a game like this.

Outside of the top 2 picks + plus Nkemdiche, Im really interested to see:

Chad Williams
Krishawn Hogan
Sojourn Shelton
Harlan Miller's Safety progression
TJ Logan on punt return(I know he'll be a stud on KRs & offense)

Top 5 guys to watch for me.

If in football shape, we should be able to see some of Tramon Williams since they do not reveal much in preseason and run it pretty vanilla like old man Bidwill likes his ice cream :)

Yesterday in a nutshell BA basically said that there are going to be so many mistakes on both sides of the ball but he will really be concentrating on ST.

He said that even in a game like this guys on teams should be able to show if they are "football players" or not.

Wanna see:

- How Gabbert looks

-How special does Logan look?

- Can Penny get it done between the tackles?

- Any TE pulling his weight?

-Which lower-echelon WR looks like a keeper.

- Run blocking/pass pro

- Is Nkemdiche ready to jump out?

- Reddick?

- How dire is our situation at #2 CB? Anyone look good wh's over 5-10?

Finally, the real fun of watching PSFB are the "surprises" - i.e. guys you never heard of who show up and make a splash.

Linebackers, running backs, and any special teams situation.

Those are the only two positions that really have any situations where the guys competing for a roster spot will be on the field for more than a series or two, IMHO

Fine with me. 4 preseason games are too much. A 5th is just a joke.

I just want to see Cardinals jerseys running around the field. that's enough to wet my football whistle at this point.

It'll be good to at least get a glimpse of the young guys and see if anyone really flashes.

It's a bunch of guys playing football in Cardinals uniforms -- so I'm excited!! :)
It will be kind of like the Cardinals from the dark days.. guys who would be second or third string on other teams, but are starters for the Cardinals.

Man, the Cardinals are very thin on the defensive line...with the starters sitting they only have RNK, RGunter, XW, OP and Tasini Parini.

Then at OLB...Kareem Martin, Cap Capi and Alex Bazzie.

At ILB (where Reddick is only supposed to play a series or two): Scooby, Gooden and Tre'Von Johnson.

That's a ton of snaps for these guys...let's hope it's not that hot at game time.
