Who on this thread is making you sick and has complained that the Cards "let such a good player go?"

I defended his contract decision but I also acknowledge that his play last year was middle-of-the-pack.

No problem with stating your opinion that he is still overpaid.

The media. Not this thread.

Good article on HB...gives you some perspective on his mindset.

"I try to constantly climb that mountain, man."

So this is his new mountain. All the Cardinals decorations everywhere down here? Yeah, they won't be up for long. Arizona decided the Honey Badger was finished. They tore up that contract and moved on. And he's moved on too, signing to play with the Texans in 2018.

Permanent smile on his face, gold No. 7 necklace around his neck, Mathieu doesn't hide from the fact that his next season is make-or-break.

It's simple. This year, the badger either lives on or dies.

"I get an opportunity to go to LSU and f--k it up. Completely f--k it up. I get into the NFL and I walk in a straight line…and get injured. This is my test. Not too many people have my story. And this is my story: A guy goes from unknown to a Heisman Trophy finalist. He gets kicked out of school. He absolutely rebounds himself. He becomes a millionaire. He's taking care of his family. And then he's getting injured.

"How can he get back to the top of that mountain? People never do it. You've seen guys go, and then drop off. They never returned."

so which is it, climbing that mountain again or being respected? it's clearly not about the money, the cards offered the most of that. he was already established here, and if he wants to get back to where he wants to be, AZ seems like the obvious spot to do it. he had some credit here, some leeway if he starts slow. let's see what happens in houston if you start slow.

Agreed. I'm not a psychiatrist but it's almost like he needs adversity to thrive and in the absence of adversity, created his own. He was in a relatively "safe" place here. A great opportunity to get back to the old badger. We embraced him, simply didnt want to overpay him. Sounds like he took a philosophical pass, more than we did. It's all odd...

Like you said, he may need to have the adversity to get better. He had it made here and if he made mistakes, he wouldn't be sitting the bench. In Texas, that might not be the case and he thinks that type of "start over" for him will better himself. We will all see I guess.
