No, you're trying to compare a traffic infraction to a criminal offense. Apples to oranges.
Both can be criminal offenses. One is a misdemeanor in some states, and shouldn't be.

Your "Traffic Infraction" kills tens of thousands yearly.

Puritanical attitudes are destructive

You likened drug possession to going one fraction of one mile per hour over a speed limit. SMH. Can you not talk about what he was charged with without going off on a tangent. What’s next? Jaywalking? Why can no one on this board just talk about the topic that is actually being discussed.

Why can't people see everything isn't absolute black and white?

And it wasn't a tangent - it was a valid comparison.

And as shown, you are selective as to what you want enforced strictly.

Hootie's charges (all misdemeanors):

One count of simple possession of a controlled substance
One count of casual exchange of a controlled substance
One count of a violation of the state’s vehicle registration law

He was released after posting $10,500 in bond.

According to you, that equals:

Going a fraction of one mile per hour over the posted speed limit

Something that won't even get you pulled over. Let's say it did. You'd get a ticket and be on your way. Then you could fight the ticket or pay it and take a class to keep your record clean.

Totally valid. LOL
