The NFL Is to make a decision if they are going to delay the start of free agency because of the coronavirus. Apparently, there is pressure for them to do so. I really hope they don't. Players don't have to fly around to visits teams. Teams know a lot about these players though film and actually watching them play. They can set up video conferencing for interviews and do negotiations via phone. Contracts can be agreed upon pending the passing of a physical at a later date when travel will be safer. I feel that we need to be able to get into some real sports talk bedsides all the cancellations. Just my two cents.

The nfl owns the sports world right now. In this day and age everything they do can be done as you mentioned through Skype, video conferences and such.

Teams already have their sights set on players they were going to bring in. Why do they bring players in? Of course to meet them face to face, show them the facilities and talk about the parameters of a contract or agree on a contract.

It’s probably harder on the player who may not get the full impact of the facility by video. Nonetheless, I’m sure they know players who were or are on the team for an in depth opinion of the organization and the facility. Things will probably move along a bit slower but what’s the hurry?

As I mention the NFL owns the sports world right now. Don’t think for one minute they aren’t going to take advantage of this if at all possible. I don’t think they are going to push this back.

Now they will need the networks to somehow figure this out. Do they take a crew of hosts and production team willing to isolate themselves in studio? Probably. There is a way to do this with a very low risk. Not ideal, but doable.

We’ll see.

Yea, it actually seems like a time where they could be just fine. Just announce signings on NFL.com and team websites and your clicks are going to skyrocket.

I can't imagine there are too many deal that can't take place. High priced big names are not working out for teams anyway.

I think they need to continue with the draft too!

I read that they have a backup plan for the draft if they eliminate the public event planned for Las Vegas. They will set up video conferencing with all the teams and can still cover it live on TV.

I don't think they will. Teams already know many of these guys anyway and anything more can be done remotely. The physicals are the main thing but they can be contracted out if needs be.

The main problem I see is those guys are unemployed next week. They ain't all rich. They need checks coming in.

Also delaying is pointless. Going to get worse for months. If you delay it its until July / August.

Roster construction activities like free agency and the draft can be handled remotely. It'll be a little more of a risk, but not a huge one. It won't show itself to be a real burden until OTAs get thrown off. The rooks need the time.

This doesn't sound very promising.

NFL continues to say it’s business as usual and new league will start this week. Multiple team officials express widespread skepticism that the NFL can start its league year this week, when our country is in crisis and so much - travel, visits, physicals - would have to happen.

Totally agree, I feel it really is best for all to not delay the start of free agency. Damn, it will give us something to talk about as I said when I started this thread. How can it be best in the national interest to delay it if everything can be handled without anyone having to travel. :bang:

I'm At home
Interned
I can go out just for work or to buy food
If u don't have a valid motivation u can get sued
21400 infected 1400 death 1800 healthy now, so actually there are 17500 people with the virus, but likely much more considering many has light simptoms and they don't get tested with the swab, so the percentage of people dying with corana virus should be less then what is reported I think
The experts said there will be a peak in the next week, but we are on the right path to limit the expansion of the virus with the partial lockdown
The problem we don't have enough beds and ventilators for people in critical care,
If the ventilators are not enough even younger people can die
We are facing this emergency, they will figure out something I hope

I hope the NFL and NFLPA at least keep the tampering period the same even if the official start of FA is delayed. We need something positive to talk about during this difficult time.

The NFL cannot postpone the new league year (and free agency) on its own. That must be done in collaboration with the NFLPA. That joint decision on whether or not to delay the league year and free agency is expected to be made today.

Prepare yourself for everything to be postponed.

All signs point to this. The 2020 season will be like no other season we’ve experienced that wasn’t affected by a strike.

As for the start off the league year and free agency still set to begin on Wednesday: NFL officials are currently discussing this with the union now. It’s not the NFL’s unilateral decision. Clarity coming soon.

I’m in the medical community. I spent all last week in a room with paramedics, nurses, NP’s, and PA’s having some very colorful discussions on the virus. We all agree that the bolded above is the number one issue we (society) are facing. It’s basically a mass casualty event. The reason for quarantine is to not overwhelm our resources. The virus is going to do its thing, and even when we do come out with the vaccine 12-18 months from now, the virus will have evolved.
