Its a solid move. Giving him a new deal was always part of the trade, and now we know he is happy and committed to being here.

I wouldn't mind extending PP21, but he has to be fully committed to being here. There has been too much talk about wanting out over the last couple of years. Jones also deserves and extension, and its just about his age..but we might do well to extend them both now. We should be trying to win a Superbowl during Kylers rookie deal, and we are not going to get closer to that in the next 3 years by letting either guy go.

My only exception would be if PP21 seems anything but fully committed to being here. If he talks about wanting to test free agency, I would trade him now while a team can get a year out of him. I want him here, but if he wants to look at other options we should trade him and move on.

Another extension option is Dan Arnold. I said it in another post, but he is built very similarly to Hakeem Butler who they drafted in the 4th round. Now that Butler is gone, I wonder if they look to extend Arnold a couple years and potentially get ahead of his production.

I'd like to see more than 8 catches first

No 2-3 more years he will demand another contract! The precident has been set.

Listen, he’s a helluva player & well worth his going rate. I just hate that him, others can do the exact same thing again, this holding the franchise hostage. I don’t like it.

What if Kyler has an outstanding year, demands a huge deal next season, then says pay me or I’m sitting.

dont be a hater.

you sounding real soft right now. Do you just hate it when a player gets hurt and can’t live up to his contract and the team cuts him?

does that part of of the NFL bother you? Them not having guaranteed contracts bother you? What if Kyler has an accident to his throwing arm in a week and they cut him voiding his contract does that bother you?

That is how Dollar Bill used to run the Cardinals. Very old school never renegotiating a contract.

...are we really at the "what if" stage of critiques? What if Patrick Mahomes gets into an accident and can't play football in 3 years? What if Deshaun Watson retires because his surrounding cast sucks? What if Prescott leaves Dallas and Amari Cooper is wasted like Fitzgerald has been for many years in AZ?

Come on.

it’s at the point some guys will cry over anything. Never happy

I'd wait until midpoint of the year. If he looks to be ascending, throw a 4 year mid tier contract at him with some good guarantees. That's how you get good contracts.

I’m fine with the contract, but not with pushing even more money down the line when there was cap space now to absorb some of this. I guess we’re 13.5 million under the cap now... hope that money is eaten up by an extension to Jones. Otherwise it looks like we’re backloading salary... at the point where Kyler’s next contract will be enormous.

and count me as very leery of giving PP an extension after looking like crap in 2 of the last 3 seasons with the only season he looked good coming when he took PEDs.

Peterson at 75% is still worth a good contract extension. Cornerback might be the hardest position to fill after QB.

at 13.5 million per year as some were throwing out? that seems like a massive overpay unless he looks lights out again without PEDS for the first time since 2015.

its a bit much to say he “looked like crap”

I mean I can show you some CB in our history who looked like crap and Peterson no matter how bad he’s been has never been one of them.

you're right. that's was a bit of hyperbole on my part and my bad. but in two of the last three years he hasn't looked good (last year, he did look like crap for the majority of the season) and and the only year he did look good was 2018 with PEDs.

Getting hard to not get excited. I still have this nagging feeling 4 games in we'll have all sorts of Covid issues in the NFL but right now it's pretty exciting.

Game Thur night, us on tv sunday against the 49ers, D Hop locked up in a new deal this is certainly looking good right now

People were saying the exact same thing months ago about when camp started and that never materialized. All will be fine.

Sure but they're not playing against other teams who haven't been in their "bubble" yet and they don't have fans in a stadium yet. The first game will have no fans, the Cards said no fans at their first 2 home games. At some point the plan is to change that and start allowing fans and then we'll see if we're able to pull that off. Are they going to allow tailgating(outside but still somewhat at risk) etc.

the NBA was a different beast they could play all the games in the same place, can't do that in the NFL.

I'm not saying it will be the disaster college football is looking like, pro players not college ones, but training camp wasn't nearly the test travelling to real games is going to be.
