For the first time in program history, Hornell will play for a New York state title in girls basketball.
Hornell topped Chenango Forks-VI 53-47 in Friday's NYSPHSAA Class B semifinal, and now takes on Cold Spring Harbor-VIII for the championship.
The Red Raiders (22-3) reached the final thanks to an 18-point game from sophomore Raegan Evingham, who knocked down four 3s in the last win. Hornell led that game by as many as 16, until Forks trimmed the deficit to four on multiple instances in the fourth quarter.
The Seahawks won their semifinal in dominant fashion, defeating Voorheesville-2 62-32.
Both teams are making their first appearance in a New York state championship game. Hornell, which has won three consecutive Section V titles, had never played in a state tournament prior to this weekend.
Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
NYSPHSAA state tournament games are held at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
