I'm not sure that I would describe Horton as fiery?? He looks every bit as stoic as Whisenhunt whenever the cameras fixated on him up in the box. Maybe I'm missing something, but fiery isn't exactly what I see. Maybe demanding, but not fiery.

I get that from the articles that guys like Somers have written about him. Because I've never met him in person or seen him at a practice I would imagine its hard to get too worked up in the press box. From what I've read he's no where near as stoic as Whisenhunt.

Anyone see him at Training Camp have an opinion?

Horton may or may not be "fiery", but what's important is that his teams have played fiery.

I agree 100%. Whatever he's been selling---his players have not only been buying it, they've been relishing in it.

I've been saying for a long time that you constantly search for coaches who give your team an edge---and a sense of real confidence.

Horton has done that and had done it in impressive fashion.

When you have a coach who gives you that edge---you don't risk losing him.

Not firery. Because of where we kept sitting during camp this year I spent three days watching him from the distance of just a few feet. He barely raises his voice when he talks to the guys. Very intent on what they were doing. Definitely not a yeller and I never saw him get worked up. He's the "watch every move they make and quietly correct" type. I was more than impressed.

So more intense than Whisenhunt maybe?

Hmm.. I think he communicates with the players better than Whiz did. Horton talks quite a bit while he's coaching. He's quiet, he doesn't raise his voice, but he talks to the guys. I'm not sure the word is intense.

Focused. He's incredibly focused on what the players are doing and notices right away if there's a problem. Then he just talks to the guys in a normal tone of voice. Do this. Not that.

He also spent a lot of time at a distance from his players just watching and observing. Maybe the equivalent of being up in the booth? He stood under the goal posts and watched when he wasn't right next to them. I like to watch how guys coach and how the players react. I watch who talks with who on the sidelines. Who's a chatterbox. (That would be Feely.) Horton is a natural teacher, IMO. He instructs.

I'll add he also seems to take it ALL in. He's not the coach who is going to screw up clock management at the end of the game. Definitely a big picture guy.

No team can refuse an interview for a HC position. Most teams just do it as a courtesy to the other team.

The way they are using Horton makes me sick.

Say Mccoy accepts a job elsewhere and plan B Ray becomes our HC. How the hell can Mike Bidwill sit at that press conference and say "hes our guy"

This is the Manning chase all over again. Go after a guy, fail, and return to your current guy like "Hey we were just kidding". Bidwills a *******.

So what would you sugest they do? Not pursue the one that they think is the best guy for the job because it isnt a sure lock that they get him and instead take the guy that is available? Text I'm available. Maybe they should hire me. That way they wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings.

of Of course, for all we know, they told Horton up front that McCoy was their first option and he was the second. That they loved what he did with the defense last year and thats why the kept him and the rest of the defensive coaches.

Well what did he hear?

A. We're looking for an HC who has been an OC.

B. You come up with an OC we like and you're in as HC.

C. We're picking whomever is left.

D. Crickets.

+1

I hope when I wake Wednesday morning they at least have given Horton the answer they told him they would give.

Feels like a Anquan Boldin situation to me, but they do have till tomorrow.

Cards are doing everything they can to avoid hiring Horton as HC. Probably go interview the MudDawgs assistant waterboy for the job since hes offensively minded.

Now they are interviewing Bevell. Should have just kept Whiz at this rate, its getting pathetic.

I really wish Chris Ault (Nevada) had tried his hand at the NFL.

I spent 10 years or so in Reno watching The Wolfpack.. seems like they scored 50+ every game.. of course they gave up a lot of points as well.

Would be a great pairing to Horton IMO.

If everything the Cards have ever done has been wrong, doing the opposite would be right.... (Hire Horton already) Costanza!!!! :D

Anyone know what kind of personal and working relationship Horton and Arians had when they were both in Pittsburgh?
