Why make him a head coach when he can stay the DC since he wont get any offers. There are too many more qualified guys with offensive backgrounds that teams want. The NFL is all about offense. I dont even think he will go anywhere next year. Any team that had a coach on the hot seat got rid of them this year there wont be many openings next year and you will still have the likes of Jon Gruden, Chip Kelly, and maybe even Whiz available.

It was brought up in another post and seems to hold true for the most part, you are not a good team without a good offense. You can have a mediocre defense and still be a top team with a good QB and offense. The only way one could be a top team with a good defense is that the defense cannot be just good, it has to be elite. When I say elite, it is so good that people will try to draw comparisons to top defenses in the past. We do not have an offense, and for me Horton with his background and his selection of Kirby (if this actually holds true) is just not going to cut it in my opinion. I think the Cards are on the verge or might have such a defense right now with Horton as its DC. Our offense was so bad that it taxed the performance of our defense this season. Why can't Horton just remain and do what he does well, does really really really well...coach defense.

u can win with elite defense and great offensive line and running back..we dont have elite defense..crappy line..mediocre running backs.they need to find right players.i just would like that a great offensive coach is part of this process, search and evaluation

I don't think we're far from there. In a 3-4, the OLBs are the guys responsible for pressuring the QB, ours would go games without even showing up, and we barely noticed. Thanks to our ends and ILB being so damn good. With a good set of OLBs, we become the top D in the league IMO

That would be my choice.....Horton stays and McCoy or Gruden as HC.

Sorry but if Kirby is his choice for OC no way will our offense be fixed. Keep Horton as DC and bring in an innovative offense minded HC.

Because if Ray (who's a pretty independent guy) feels he's "being played", he's as likely as not to walk out of here and become another team's DC.

He cant if hes under contract its against NFL law you can only change teams for a promtion which for Horton would be a HC. Him becoming a HC is the only way he gets to leave AZ. He signed a three year deal last year.

I don't agree and with all due respect this is a chicken little viewpoint to have. ANYTHING would be better than the monstrosity we witnessed this year.

Now the question should rather be: Will the offense be where we need it to be to win a championship? I don't know and I don't believe that the questions can be answered easily

The Kirby thing bugs me. I don't consider him an "expert" that would fix our offensive woes.

My backing of Horton was with the caveat that he'd bring in a proven offensive guru at OC. Kirby? That significantly tempers my enthusiasm for Horton.

I agree with that. But I'm still behind him for HC. I think we need the GM sorted first though so that the GM can give him stipulations regarding the coordinators and maybe/hopefully convince him to go with somebody else

And since when are McCoy, Haley, or Gruden considered experts in this field?

Wilson is just as unproven as they are.
Not so sure about Haley and Gruden, but McCoy has a very good track record of QB success and offensive success all around.

How is that? Getting good production out of Peyton Manning? Or being 25th in the NFL in scoring with Tebow the year before?

Coaching up Delhomme to good numbers, Orton to the best numbers of his career, completely revamping his offense to actually win with Tim effing Tebow, revamping it again to allow Peyton to have his best season in 8 years.

Just a little bit of results from his coaching.

Your turn, sing the praises of Kirby Wilson.

McCoy is being considered for the H-C role, so any reference to Wilson seems out of context. That said - one of the key determinants in hiring is what one has done with the tools available: Did you over achieve? It would seem that McCoy like Marrone who was hired in Buffalo, has examples in the affirmative to this important question.
