Most of us evaluate a player based on what we see (i.e. what he's done for us lately).

But what this doesn't tell us is a player's capacity and willingness to grow or the speed at which he absorbs and processes new information and improves his skills.

It's what adds to football's unpredictability (& fun).

Palmer and Housler weren't living up to expectations and drew heat from the fans. Now they're doing good and getting the love.

Can they sustain the high effort? Will they continue to improve? Hmm.

Might I add, he gets an official, KUDOS, for his catch and run in the 1st quarter, where he planted his foot in the dirt and turned up field instead of going out of bounds, and ran over some poor Colts DB.

Unchecked aggression and I like it!

My theory about Palmer being a USC quarterback who peeked in college seems to be getting torn to shreds.

I'm really, really, really happy about that. :)

right here for Palmer. dude's been absolutely NAILS the last two weeks and solid the two weeks prior to that. he keeps playing this way and we've got as good a shot as anyone at making the playoffs.

I'll have a little crow for Housler comments but I never lost hope for Carson. He was much worse to start the season than I expected and lately he's been playing better than I thought he would. I'm not sure either one is the real Carson but I don't think he'll ever drop back to the early season version. As for Housler, I don't think any of the bashing was unreasonable but I'm thrilled to see him proving most of us wrong.

I am glad to eat crow on some of the things I have said about Palmer as of late, but the bottom line is both of these guys had been underachieving so that negativity was well founded. That being said, I am beyond happy with how they have both finally melded to the offense.

Housler is one of the very few guys I gave up on. Crow for me.

How about Bowles? There were lots on here killing him after 1 week. Preseason for some. Ridiculous. Where are the crow eaters for him.

I still do not know what to think of him. He is on pace to match is number from last season with one less game. At the same time, four of his last five games have been above average, but not great. He needs to continue this through the end of the season since we saw these same streaks last year too.

FWIW I watched one of those fantasy football preview shows early Sunday. they said Houslers issue early on was 2 things, he and Palmer hadn't gotten on the same page(old news) and the ankle was impacting his ability to cut, he could run in a straight line but cuts were difficult. now that the ankle has healed quite a bit he is able to move laterally better.

I still think he should have scored on that one ball where the DB got him around the ankles but at least he tried to plow the guy over didn't give up.

If he can play like this consistently he's worth having on the field for his catching. His blocking is still not good so he better keep catching the ball if he wants to play.

I was done with Housler also but he really was playing bad. He has made some cartches in traffic the last couple of weeks that I didn't believe we would ever see.

Palmer given time can throw. Have to live with some picks but he can get it done.

He actually played well for the Bengals for some years. When he moved he went into a new system with new players. You never know what a QB will do when moved to a new team. Just look at Peyton Manning. He has sure gone down hill.

If a bad QB moves to a team with a great defensive line he may suddenly become a good QB. These guys do not operate in a vacuum.
