I was going through the Suns Insider and ran across this name and forgot he was an unrestricted FA. To me he would be a better acquistion than Nash, I would prefer Barry but would settle with Fisher and really want to forget about Nash.

I don't want Nash, but Fisher would not be that great. I think he only works as a PG on a team like the Lakers: Two other guys doing most the ball-handling and passing out to him for some open shots. Nash can create and shoot better. Too lazy to check Fisher's percentages but he gets a lot of open shots.

I like the idea. Fisher would not need to be a main contributor, just a solid PG to run the offense. Him and Barbosa would be good sharing minutes, and I think we can figure Fisher doesn't care if he is the one doing the scoring, seeing how things were in LA.

I say: :bhiich:

Agreed, I was thinking about this earlier today. I like Fisher as a player (when healthy) and I hear he is a good citizen as well. I think he was a big part of the Laker championships. He would provide some veteran leadership and would not "break the bank".

Having said that I would not be very excited about Fisher signing with the Suns. Fisher doesn't create shots but he can handle, shoot, and get the team into an offense.

The Phoenix Suns need to things from their point guard position. They need someone who can knock down outside shots. Both Barbosa and Derek Fisher can do that. Just as importantly they need someone who can break down a defense and create opportunities for his teammates when the offense stalls in the half-court. That's really not one of Fisher's strong points. He used to be a good defender, but I didn't think he will do whole lot better than average when I watched him this season.

How much are you guys thinking he is going to cost?

Has anyone looked at Fisher's stats?

This season he shot 35.2% from the field and 29.1% for three. In 21.6 minutes a game he dished out only 2.3 apg.

How bad is that? Howard Eisley shot 36.8% and shot 31.9% for three and dished out 4.1 apg in 21.7 minutes (admittedly his Phoenix stats were lower).

Fisher's best year shooting was at only 43.7% and his career average is below 40%. He will turn 30 in August and is not that quick now.

I think he will want $5.5-6 mil a year, but he will get 2.5 or around that. That's my thought, but either way I don't want him. He's tainted. ;) I think
he ends up in Denver or Utah and maybe they give him a bit more.

As for Utah, I like Arroyo and Lopez more than Fisher.

I guess if he comes cheap enough several teams might want to pick him up. I do agree about Utah, my thought was they are desperate to get anyone and have the cash.

Fisher strikes me as a championship-chaser, like Horry. I doubt he'd consider signing with the Suns.

Just as well, because he's not that much of an improvement over Howard Eisley IMO.
