How about DeSagana Diop for the suns?

Maybe the Suns could do some kind of trade with the Cavs for Jackson and Diop? It appears they are ready to part co. with Diop.

I do not know if he can ever make a good nba center, but he is young and only starting his 4th season.

Getting Diop would give us a backup with size, and getting Jackson would give us a sg/sf for the future.

I am sure Cleveland would like a trade exception because they really want a point guard somehow. They could use it for that.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]While they landed Christie, the Mavericks saw 7-foot center Stephen Hunter sign a five-year, $16.5 million contract in Philadelphia. The Mavericks sought Hunter as a backup to Erick Dampier, but he chose Philadelphia because of the long-term contract and the promise of additional playing time. One name left on market is DeSagana Diop, another interesting 7-footer Diop, 23 and the eighth pick in the 2001 draft, is a restricted free agent unlikely to be retained by Cleveland." I can see maybe the Suns making a move for Nene with there trade exception and a draft pick. Maybe our own 1st rounder.

The Nuggets say they are very high on Nene, so they aren't going to dump him for nothing.

Diop is a possibility, especially if the Suns are willing to offer most of the exception money, which most likely would outbid other teams. I doubt he's worth it, but the Suns are desperate for big men, so it's worth considering.

I think the Phoenix Suns would be attractive to one of these young, underachieving big men because they are likely to get the PT here. Players like Diop would look at what just happened to Steven Hunter. In fact they would have an even bigger opportunity this season since the Phoenix Suns will get more attention from start to finish.

I wouldn't mind Diop for the minimum one bit. He's big. He can block shots, and despite his ginormity he can run. I'm not saying he would do a whole lot, but he would definitely be worth a shot.

Diop would be a slight improvement over Hunter, but not much. Diop is said to be able to hit a 10-foot jumper. Still a horrible rebounder for a big man.

I want to know what we plan to give up for this guy, though. He was not worth the 8th pick four years ago and our first-rounder better be the one that ends up in the late 20s. Furthermore, if you give up a first-round pick, you better plan on keeping Diop and developing him. This is not a quick fix, but would be acceptable considering the current state of the roster.

Diop is an unrestricted free agent.

This is news to me. Everything I've read so far said he was a restricted free agent.

I should've added, if by unrestricted you mean the Cavs won't match any offers, that's my understanding.

A while back the Cavs renounced about 5 players so they could start dealing, Diop was one of those players.

So if the suns can find the money for him they can sign him.

Diop has an erratic FT-line jumper and not much else on offense. He's much more raw than Hunter was at this time last year.

I wouldn't mind getting him for the minimum, though, if the team's other options fall through. The Suns could use at least one player who's bigger than Amare.

Holy cow, he shot less than 30% from the field last year. A seven-footer! That's almost impossible to believe.

I retract my earlier lukewarm interest in him. Even Burke is probably a better option.

I wouldn't mind Diop because he has decent shot blocking ability but at this stage we need to add a big who we're sure can play. Mikki Moore, Traylor, Kevin Willis, Massenburg, Dale Davis(if healthy enough), Mark Madsen, DeClerq, Samaki Walker are possibilities at the min - I've listed them in my order of preference. All are UFAs and unsigned according to the list on ESPN.

Anyone know how much Mikki Moore is seeking?

Madsen has been resigned by MN for a rediculous 5 year contract.

Did Walker play last year?

Traylor wants to play in Miami, but can not see them signing him with all the players they have now. Especially after re-signing Mourning.

Willis & Massenburg should probably retire.

DeClerq was injured most of last year, probably ok now.

The Clippers have said they want to re-sign Moore, but have not done so yet.
Moore is the guy in this list I would like to see the suns sign.

I don't know how much Moore is looking for but I did notice he got about 850K last season. My guess is that he'd like to get a longer term contract, and truthfully he's come close to earning it. If we have something like 1.3 left from our MLE and offered him 5 years my guess is he'd leap at it. No doubt he'd love to get the same contract as Hunter - he's probably a trifle better right now but without the upside so I doubt he'll get it. He's something like 28 or 29 years old and has been in league 7 years or so in relative obscurity.

He does get up and down the floor well and early in his career he was a foul machine that tried to block every shot - rather like Hunter in that regard. Now he plays more within himself. I remember back when we had Kidd I thought Mikki would be a good bench player for us because he liked to run the floor - I thought we should populate our whole bench with speedy guys so some of the time Kidd would have guys on the floor that would run with him. Heck, there was always the chance if BC saw it work out well often enough he'd get a clue.

Moore would be a very good pickup. He's not young anymore, so (as Errntknght just observed) he doesn't have much "upside," but he can actually play a little, which is more than can be said for any other backup C option at this point.

I wouldn't mind Mikki Moore, but I would not give him a 5 year deal. He may be the verso slightly better than Hunter in some aspects. Moore is not a shot blocker though. In fact he averaged just 1.3 blocks per 48 minutes last season to Hunter's 4.7. they each averaged an identical 16 points and 10 rebounds per 48 minutes. Hunter averaged 6 personal fouls per 48 minutes, and Moore averaged 7.

What was the mid-level exception this year? Was it $5.5 million or $5 million? What did Bell's contract start at... was it $4.25 million? I'm wondering how much they really have left. I don't think I would be excited using the LLE on Moore. I guess I could live with it.
