How About Marcus Banks?

A week ago the Suns were rumored to be talking to Marcus Banks. Now that the Salmons deal has fallen through, I think there is a chance Banks might be given more attention.

I'm not sure how much competition there will be for him. The Wolves have signed Mike James and the Mavs are rumored to be targeting Greg Buckner. The Lakers, who almost traded for him a couple of years ago, have used their MLE on VRad.

Obviously there are a lot of teams looking for PG's, but Up until his trade to the Wolves, I'm not sure there was much interest in Banks. He was one of several combo guards in Boston and never had much of an opportunity to play. But in his 40 games with the Wolves he did quite well.

12 ppg, 47.9% shooting, 36.4% for three, 4.7 assists, and 1.18 steals in 30.7 minutes per game. He's only 6'2", but is a tough man defender and very quick. I'm not sure he has "proven" he's a PG, but after a career with a terrible assist to turnover ration, he was just under 2 to 1 with the Wolves.

The Wolves used him at SG some of the time and PG other times. He's not a huge scorer, but did have a couple of 20+ games and 14 others games over 15. He is no Nash, but 4.7 assists is not bad for a guy who played off the ball about half the time.

I'm not sure he's enough to get people excited about the off season, but I think he could help.

I'd give him a part of the MLE starting at $4Mil per over 4 years.

If Salmons got $23Mil for 5 years, then Banks is worth around $20Mil over 4 years i guess.

lol wow...

Well I think Banks would be good. I don't know much about him and thought he sucks but then I checked out his stats yesturday and he's pretty young too. He would be a great guy to pick up if they can. We need some more depth right now.

What's funny is that there is another thread about Banks already:

What's even funnier is that George was the one who started that one, too! :D

I'm not big on bumping old threads, but at least now we have some idea of what the Suns are actually trying to do: find someone who can play point who can defend and play SG.

You should know that by now. The only player on the Suns team that is STRICTLY a single position guy is Nash. The rest of the team HAS to be able to play multiple positions.

I've "known" this for quite a while, but lacked real evidence.

Just listened to Gambo on Arizona Sports Report and he said that he expects the Sun's to trade Kurt Thomas for another big man and that there is a possibility that they may bring Casey Jacobsen back and that they would possibly be patient on getting a backup point guard. They have interest in Chucky Atkins but expect him to want too much money and more playing time. Not sure if I like any of this.

Drew Gooden for Kurt Thomas! Please let it happen

I always thought Gooden would be a monster playing in D'Antoni's system.

Interesting that Gambo is so persistent in coming up with KT trades. It does make you wonder whether KT is in the Suns plans.

Initially, I don't have any more interest in CJake, but it looks like he's improved his game since he was last here--defensively even. No more than the vet min though.

Casey was almost acceptable defensively when he was here, but had turned into a shooter that didn't shoot.

I wouldn't get too excited about his summer games. He did not exactly burn up the European leagues last season.

He is, but not in the way people keep thinking. In 2008 his contract expires. He might stay, but only at a much lower rate of pay. The Suns will need the cap relief and taking on longer term contracts just adds to their financial woes.

KT for Gooden?..

I thought Cavs are trying to surround James with the right players also.. I mean Z is already contradictory to the way James should be running the offense.. adding another similar player in KT.. makes them tougher inside.. but doesnt improve their offense...

I'm not wondering at all.

Best case scenario for the Suns is probably to replace KT with a younger player with a similar profile and an expiring contract. Joe Smith fills the bill, or possibly Marc Jackson...
