He was so bad that the team kept Pace and Blackstock, and released him. Actually, I guess there is still hope for him, as a year on the PS might help the light go on.

No, he won't. Someone with depth will take him as a project and when the light clicks, he'll be a good player for them.

We don't have the luxury of letting him develop with our razor thin LB depth we need a guy who can contribute right away.

I don't know how bad he was, he didn't hang around long enough to find out.

For one thing, those guys play OLB and Buster is strictly a MLB and couldn't beat veterans Gerald Hayes and Monty Biesel. What is disappointing is that he looked worse than UDFA Pago Togafau.

When he was drafted, most applauded. Its rare for a HC to cut a day 1 pick this early. Is B Davis just too small? I just saw him overwhelmed at times. Not to give your 3rd rd pick the benefit of the doubt raises a red flag. Was Davis that bad or was there anything else playing a factor? No one has really stepped up in the front 7. There is something more to this cut.

You might be right. Even Thomas Burke (3rd 1999) who couldn't start ahead of Brad Ottis and Fred Wakefield stuck around for 3 years.

So here's a Practice squad question: Are we the only team who can put him on our PS? Does he go on the 53 man roster on any other team????

Other Team's PS

If Buster clears waivers, as I believe he will, he can be selected for any team's PS. I believe once he "clears" he's a FA and able to sign with any team. Does anyone know differently?

You are right. just like we did with that Vaughn LB from the Broncos.

On a side note these next 7 days are going to be excruciatingly long. Nothing to talk about but Buster Davis, Patrick maybe or maybe not clearing waivers and excepting our PS offer, and some lame smack talk from the Niner fans in that way to long game thread. Boring.

in order for a team to pick him up, they have to put him on their active 53 man roster. if he clears waivers you can put him on the PS, and if you don't, then somebody else can. but once he is on the PS, he is still a FA, and any team can sign him if he wants to go.

If I remember correctly we passed on Rufus Alexander LB from Oklahoma. Rufus may turn out to be a good player.:bang:
rufus is already out for the season..torn ACL..and also he didn't have the size for a 3-4 OLB

Good point Goober. This year's draft is starting to look pretty weak although it's way too early to really judge but it's fun to speculate. I think we payed too much for Branch.
I think we drafted smart actually even though Buster was a bust in our draft(no pun intended) picks have done fairly well in preseason..Branch recovered a fumble in the Raiders game and is consitantly double teamed...Levi is proveing us wrong that that he was drafted too high..Breaston showing why he holds the Big Ten record for returns..other than those 3rd and 7th picks we've done pretty good..since we replaced buster with Moses who I hear from a 49er fan on the azcardinals board that Moses is a good pass rusher and made some plays on the rb from chasing him down from behind when the Raiders and 49ers played against eachother this preseason..and also Patrick might go on the PS which will still help the team in some ways..and if you ment we paid too much for Branch by only giving up a 4th round pick to move up to the top of the 2nd round I think we got there cheap since the team after us I think it was the Bills that gave up 3 picks to move up into the spot behind us
