C'mon Russ, your team is sharing first place in the conference after winning 4 of their last 5, time to crow a little bit. Not many other days this season have been positive.

Yeah it was an interesting game UCLA played the whole game flat but managed to hang on for the win.

I'm so used to UCLA being able to take away the opponents best scorer it was weird watching Landry Fields put up 35 when you knew UCLA was targetting him the whole game. They weren't even guarding PG Jarrett Mann in the zone, dared him to shoot the whole game, he had 7 points completely unguarded.

Honeycutt is becoming a star, 12 points 11 boards 8 assists 3 blocks 2 steals, needs to get stronger and develop a midrange game but it is tempting to think how much better would UCLA have been to start the year if Honeycutt hadn't misses most of the offseason with injury?

They play Cal Saturday so if they manage a win they could stay in first place a bit longer.

See now you jinxed them, UCLA up 14 in the first half loses by double digits to Cal today.

Cal was pretty impressive shooting the ball and it didn't help that Reeves Nelson knocked heads with a Cal player the first minute he was in the game and had a concussion. He finished with 6 points 2 boards in 20 minutes and will apparently miss 2-3 days now recovering.

Luckily the next game is next Sunday at USC so plenty of rest for nelson.

Russ what happend to Kendal Williams? He was at the pit last night for a visit.

Allegedly he dropped UCLA. I think in reality he got tired of reading UCLA should drop him and so he dropped them. I wanted them to stick with him personally because we're so thin at Guard. It looks like UCLA will probably offer Deonta Burton soon, he plays at the same HS Afflalo played at. 6"2" combo guard he's athletic but not really a PG so we'll see, they've been watching him awhile now with no offer so they're clearly interested but not blown away.

Williams is pretty similar the thing is he's a better shooter than Burton which is what intrigued me. He's averaging 22 PPG according to Max Preps but only 31% from 3 and 44% overall. He also had some on and off court temper issues but I suspect that someone at UCLA gave him the impression he wouldn't play much and that's why he decommitted. What I've seen on film I like but the guys who are supposed to know insist Burton is a much better prospect so we'll see.

It looks like it is down to UNM and Clemson for Williams. I'm sure Alford can find a way to use him if he signs.

He's a tough kid which frankly I think UCLA could use a few more of. I can't imagine him getting stripped by Marcus Johnson and faking an injury while watching Johnson dunk to put the game away, the way Jerime Anderson did Sunday night.
