How did the Boston Celtics win the 1974 NBA Finals? The short version is they used a very bold strategy to pull it off. But the longer version is quite the tale, which had the Celtics defeat the might Milwaukee Bucks helmed by future Los Angeles Lakers nemesis Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Hall of Fame wing John Havlicek was the star of the series, eventually earning the Finals Most Valuable Player award for the series, but it was then-Celtics head coach Tommy Heinsohn who had Hondo serve as a decoy as the series was tied 3-3 heading into Game 7. Star big man Dave Cowens took over, and the gamble paid off big.
