Debating with a hornets fan and he's claiming that all Amare has over West is finishing ability. I maintain that Amare's jumper is only slightly worse than Wests, but I need numbers to back it up.

Of course Amare requires constant double teams and makes twice as much as West does because of it, but I guess that doesn't matter. :p

this will tell you certain percentages based on areas of the floor, but not necessarily if it was a jumper or floater, etc...

http://www.nba.com/hotspots/

This will tell you percentages based on distance to the hoop:

http://www.hoopdata.com/shotstats.aspx?team=PHO&type=pg&posi=%&yr=2010&gp=0&mins=0

wow, based on that first site it looks like a landslide for west (west 46% to amare 41%). i didn't realize that amare's jumper was that poor.

the second site seems a shade close (west 45% to amare 42%)

Thanks Ouchie. I used the hoopdata one :p It's 3% out past 15 feet. But he's jumper between 10 and 15ft is actually better than Wests. Plus West is a *****. Amare is 10X the finisher he is.

really the argument is silly. amare is a better offensive player than west by miles. i can't comment on other facets of the game b/c i'm just not that familiar with west's defense.

It has been traditionally overrated by this board. In fact it's mediocre among the league's starting PFs.

You have to normalize the quality of his jumpshots by his ability to dunk on people's heads. Sure LaMarcus Aldridge has a nicer jump shot, but he is a sissy in the paint.

It seems like his jumpshot used to be deadlier. His shades might have something to do with this.

I agree. I had a lot less confidence in his outside shot this season than anytime since he started working on it. I think the goggles affected him in many ways and his outside shot might have taken the biggest hit.

Based strictly on what i've seen in games i'd agree. In fact, even his drive-right post move has suffered from the goggles too IMO. Seems like he was getting stripped alot last season and seemed to have difficulty in traffic in general with the ball in his hands.

I don't think a seasonwide stat is very helpful. The Suns were a mess in Dec and Jan; and Amare was not in top condition followin his eye problem. At the same time, Amare's outside shooting was a big deal because he was able to draw defenders out to guard him.

We;ll mis Amare's "plus one" plays to the basket. Still, Hedo may become a bigger threat because he can do more things.
