Every year Hollywood tries to "create" the next big movie star before that actor has actually proven themselves. I wasn't thinking that this thread would turn into an opinion piece on who the least talented stars are. Because then this will turn into a thread about how Keanu Reeves or whoever can't act. As an example, whether you think Keanu can act or not, the guy makes very successful films and generally doesn't try to act beyond his talent level. He chooses the right films and people pay big bucks to see him - he is a STAR.

But I don't get Colin Farrell and Josh Hartnet. Does anyone feel like movie studios are trying to force these 2 actors down peoples throats? I mean these guys are not very good actors and they seem to have a low wattage star appeal based on the dismal box office of their films. How many bombs do these actors get to make before studios say see ya. Neither of these actors has headlined a successful film.

Colin Farrell was in maybe one or 2 decent films (and were usually bit roles like in Minority Report.) I mean really what has this guy done that is so deserving of staring in huge budget movies and getting the press that he does? I don't get it. Same with Josh Hartnet. So who else has been given more than enough chances to be a star and just doesn't seem to have "IT." Why on earth do they have a career?????? After 4, 5, 6 money losing bombs or barely breakeven films in a row, at what point do producers finally say "Gee, I don't think you're worth $15 million to star in my future bomb."

Colin Farrell:
# Miami Vice (2006) .... Detective James 'Sonny' Crockett
# Ask the Dust (2006) .... Arturo Bandini
# The New World (2005) .... Captain John Smith
# Alexander (2004) .... Alexander
# A Home at the End of the World (2004) .... Bobby Morrow
# Intermission (2003) .... Lehiff
# S.W.A.T. (2003) .... Jim Street
# Veronica Guerin (2003) .... Tattooed Boy
# Daredevil (2003) .... Bullseye
# The Recruit (2003) .... James Douglas Clayton
# Phone Booth (2002) .... Stu Shepard
# Minority Report (2002) .... Danny Witwer
# Hart's War (2002) .... Lt. Thomas W. Hart
# American Outlaws (2001) .... Jesse James
# Tigerland (2000) .... Pvt. Roland Bozz

Josh Hartnet (again, he has only had "bit parts" in good films):
# Lucky Number Slevin (2006) .... Slevin Kelevra
# Mozart and the Whale (2005) .... Donald Morton
# Sin City (2005) .... The Man
# Wicker Park (2004) .... Matthew
# Hollywood Homicide (2003) .... Det. K.C. Calden
# 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002) .... Matt Sullivan
# Black Hawk Down (2001) .... SSgt. Matt Eversmann
# O (2001) .... Hugo Goulding
# Pearl Harbor (2001) .... Capt. Danny Walker
# Town & Country (2001) (as Joshua Hartnett) .... Tom Stoddard
# Member (2001) .... Gianni
# The Same (2001) .... The Neighbor
# Here on Earth (2000) .... Jasper Arnold
# The Virgin Suicides (1999) .... Trip Fontaine
# The Faculty (1998) .... Zeke Tyler
# Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) .... John Tate

the fact that both of those guys continue to be "leading men" is mystifying to me as well. Interesting thread.

I know there are many actors and actresses that can be discussed in this thread - but yeah, I thought these would be 2 good examples to kick off this discussion.

So based on your opinion of a "little" film Colin Farrell made "15 films ago" you think he deserves to continue to "STAR" in big budget films? Are you saying that you think that he's an amazingly charismatic "leading" talent who can carry a picture to great success? I actually thought Phonebooth was a decent movie - but I don't think many people went to see it, nor would I look at Farrell in that film and go "ooh, he's going to be the next big super star". Decent character actor, maybe? I think you're missing the point of this thread.

modicum of talent + attractiveness (sexually) = star

that's just the way it is. until you rant about the idiots who are female stars, don't give me this josh and colin crap. it works both ways, tiger.

I didn't have enough space in my "innitial" post to discuss every actor that fits this category. Those just seemed to be 2 good examples to kick off the discussion. I was planning to come back with female examples later (and I will)- because there are plenty. However, I do take exception to you classifying them as stars. The whole point of this threat is to show that these actors "DON'T" have what it takes to be stars. Hence, the reason why women such as yourself aren't flocking to their films in droves to turn their box office bombs into blockbusters. If they were true "STARS" as you imply, they would have more successful films on their resume. Heck, they haven't proven that they can "open" any film.

Before I go for the night, I'll give you one female actress for good measure - Jennifer Anniston. She is not a star and she cannot carry a film even though producers will keep trying (any no, the "Break-up" does not count - that could have been Vince Vaughn and any no-name actress and it still would have been a hit. The point being, that no one went to that film to see their favorite film star, Jennifer Anniston. It was all about Vince).

I'm going to reply with what a studio mogul's reply would be: "Who cares?"

If Colin Farrell's movies make millions because he's in them, then they are going to put him in their movies. Simple as that. It's how Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze all made their living, let alone Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal. These guys were profit machines. Period.

Colin Farrell movies don't do well - that's the point. Reeves and Swayze "do or did" make blockbuster films. BTW, how's the late night editing going?

Collin Ferrell is a dork, however I did really like 'Phone Booth'. How he got more film time than Jamie Foxx in 'Miami Vice' is beyond me.

What was with the haircut in Miami Vice? Sonny C. is a redneck? News to me.
