I hope they give Thomas a some first team reps during practice from here on out. Not that I WANT to see him, I'm terrified of the idea, but if it comes to that (and with our luck it will) him having some remote understanding of the plays would be nice.

He is clearly a backup but as far as backups go, I don't think there are better ones out there. We can win games with him. Obviously would prefer Palmer but we go with the guys we have.

We won two games with him already and we can win more. Let's kick some ass and not sit around like a bunch of Cowboys fans making excuses for our season.

I'm still hoping on word of a partial tear and Palmer coming back for the playoffs. We know we can still win with Stanton but my confidence in him to take us to the Super Bowl is another story. He will have to play better than he has to get us there. At least he will get all the reps this week. We really need to put Cooper in at guard. That's our weak spot on the offense. We also need to pick up another decent backup QB. I would take Matt Leinart or just about any other QB over Thomas.

I like Stanton's pedigree. He's from Michigan State, and it brings me back to the days of Earl Morrell, stepping in for Johnny Unitas, and leading the Colts to the Super Bowl. And while CP is not Johnny U., I think that Drew Stanton is on a par with Earl M. Not as experienced but more mobile and he has a stronger arm. Earl had a much better running game, if my fading memory serves me well, and we both have good wide receivers. Not sure but Earl might have had one of the all time great TE's, John Mackey. Does anyone else see the comparison?

The TD bomb was a hell of a throw. The next series he came in was less impressive.

My opinion of Stanton has risen a bit from earlier when he was QB in 2 wins. But, I still think he's a greater drop off than most on the board seem to think.

Is he good enough to get the team to the playoffs, sure. But it will be on the defense more than ever IMO.

Is he good enough to get the team to the SB? I'm not so sure on that, BA's opinion notwithstanding.

But, I am pulling for the kid to pull that Earl Morrall/Jeff Hostedler type relief job.

Go Cards!

A step down as the Cardinals enter the most difficult part of the season. But it's not a total loss of confidence as Stanton can be decent in some areas.

If the run offense doesn't improve, the Cardinals are going to struggle against Seattle and SF down the stretch IMO.

This is not good:

@daverichard: Cards WRs w/ Stanton (about 12 quarters):

Fitzgerald: 23 tgts/12-142-0
Floyd: 19 tgts/6-130-0
Brown: 18 tgts/10-132-3

In essence, the only WR he completes more than 50% of his passes to Is John Brown.

I just hope this isn't what cracks the door open for the Hawks and 9ers to get back in the division race. I think it would take a collapse at this point for that to happen but I hate giving them even the slightest glimmer of hope.

I'd love to see BOTH of those teams miss the playoffs.

Even though they choked against the Jets in the SB, that Colts team (13-1) was one of the best ever. They were dominant on both sides of the ball & coached by Don Shula. I didn't realize it, but Morrall was the 2nd pick in the draft & played 21 years in the NFL, many as a back-up.

Palmer and Fitz had just found their rhythm... Fitz was back to dominating like he had in previous years. The timing and reads between he and Palmer were reaching perfection level.
Man I hope Stanton took great notes... and I would expect Carson to be chirping in Stanton's ears the rest of the way!

Another MSU star that was on the 1968 Colts was Bubba Smith. One of the most dominant D-lineman to ever come out of college. He was 6'8". NFL career started strong, but a freak sideline knee injury pretty much ended his career. Was the #1 pick of the 67 draft. Got tangled up with the down marker and chain in a preseason game in 1972. Turned out to be a devastating knee injury & he was never the same. Sure fire hall of famer without the injury.

As noted by Burns on 98.7, Kurt Warner and Tom Brady were not starters going into their seasons the years they won the Super Bowl (Kurt came in for Trent Green after a preseason injury, and Tom's first when he came in for Bledsoe, of course). Add Drew to the list!!! :D
