well they put bayless on nash last night. not really effective. he tried to be physical, but all those hard suns screens really bothered him.

get it? sun's screen? nevermind...

seemed like, he didnt have enough gas to go full tilt on his offensive end.

and when nash got doubled, they quickly moved the ball around to the weak side, or they had to leave frye wide open (but he wasnt hitting his damn shots last night!).

Let me get this straight. This is a thread discussing what the opposing team can do to beat our team. Stupidest thread I think I've ever seen.

Right because Nate McMillan is an idiot whos searching Suns message boards for tips on what to do with his team.

As far as what adjustments Portland should make, there's not much they can do. Even at full strength the Suns are a better team (though I think that would be a 6 or 7 game series). The Suns weren't ready for Game 1 and got surprised, but so long as Amare isn't suspended I think this ones over in 5.

Trying to understand your opponents strengths and weaknesses is never stupid. Never.

yeah, no kidding, if you can anticipate their adjustment you can gameplan for it. waiting to see what they're going to do and then reacting is the dumbest gameplan ever.

The absolute best thing Portland can do in any game in this series is get Grant Hill (and to a lesser extent Jared Dudley) into foul trouble. That's it. Regardless of their "run" at the end of last night's game, if we bottle up Andre Miller, the series is over.

They did try to get Amare into emotional trouble, and said so after the game. Amare can expect more of it in Game 4. They want to get him frothing at the mouth and out of the game.

They said so?

From the Oregonian
http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2010/04/portland_trail_blazers_lose_to.html

As this series is threatening to become a laugher, the Blazers appear intent on going down swinging -- both verbally and literally.

Batum called Amare Stoudemire a "dirty" player after Stoudemire pushed him to the floor on a layup attempt. The fall caused Batum to land on his strained right shoulder, and forced him from the game.

Meanwhile, Aldridge and Stoudemire had to be separated near the end of the third quarter when Stoudemire threw his elbow into Aldridge while establishing rebounding position. Although Aldridge afterward wouldn't go as far as Batum, he did go at Stoudemire on the court, resulting in a technical for both players.

Guard Andre Miller said that type of fire and street instinct needs to become the Blazers' identity for the rest of the series.

"We are probably going to have to nasty it up a little bit, like we did in the second half," Miller said when asked what adjustments the Blazers need to make. "We committed some hard fouls, tried to get up under their skin, but (Phoenix) calmed themselves down and didn't get caught up in all that. We have to figure out a way to kind of gritty it up a little bit and force them out of their comfort zone like they are doing to us."

with that elbow Amare threw, it looked like their plan was working. He can't be dumb enough to fall for this crap AGAIN. Use whatever tiny bit of brain you have Amare and don't get goaded into a suspension that will boot us out of the playoffs again.

I was actually extremely impressed with Amare's self-control last night. He took a beating. One of the worst beatings I've seen a guy take in a while in the NBA. The Blazers were so blatant and really pushed the envelope with regard to fouling and intent to harm.
There is no doubt in my mind that part of their plan is to focus on Amare's face. They are clearly attempting to knock his goggles off and/or around as much as possible. It's amazing he didn't end up with a broken or bloody nose...
And Miller coming into Amare with both knees raised up and hitting Amare in the chest was so Bush-League...

If I'm nate McMillan,,,,I'd double team Amare with the bigs and take my chances with Channing Frye hitting three's. I don't know if that will work but it's worth a shot.

They already tried that, but didn't rotate fast enough to J Rich and he has been MURDERING them.

If they try that crap they were pulling in the second half on Sat., if I were Gentry I would pull my starters and put in the backups and tell them to foul Aldridge, Bayless, Miller HARD AS HELL ... OFTEN AS HELL. You want to play like dirty little ******* because your getting your asses kicked I would respond with some near flagrant fouls on their primary scorers as well! How their were no flagrants called on Portland in the second half is beyond ridiculous the Miller knees to Amares chest come to mind as well as some of Howards ridiculous hacks across his face with almost no attempt at the ball. Hopefully the league is reviewing as we speak and let the refs know to not let this crap get out of hand early on Sat!

I expect the Blazers to get even cheaper come tomorrow. If we just keep our cool and take care of the ball, they can't play with us. We get a W tomorrow and we win by 30 on Tuesday.

yeah, but everything you're talking about came AFTER the elbow swing. I mean, if he did something after THAT when you know the coaching staff brought up SA to him then he'd really be a mental midget.

we'll see how he handles himself tomorrow. I have a feeling it's gonna be REALLY ugly.

Definitely. The Blazers have all but admitted that that's the only chance they have.

if I'm the Suns, I'm sending that clip where they do to the league office and have the refs on alert... not that it will probably matter up there in Portland, but every little bit will help.

Send it to ESPN and get them to play it around the clock like they did years ago with Tommy Heinson complaining about Amare blocking Pierce. I don't think Amare's reputation has ever bounced back from that public whipping (despite the fact that the block was actually clean).

I know, we don't have the pull at ESPN to get them to air it over and over so send along a quarter. I'm not suggesting they're ****** or anything but hey a quarter is a quarter.
