1. Head-to-Head
2. Division Record
3. Common Games
4. Conference Record
5. Strength of Victory
6. Strength of Schedule
7. Combined Ranking Among Conference Teams (points scored and points allowed)
8. Combined Ranking Among All Teams (points scored and points allowed)
9. Net Points (common games)
10. Net Points (all games)
11. Net Touchdowns (all games)

Currently the Cardinals have the last playoff spot by virtue of tie breakers.

Detroit: Head to Head
Division: Cards 2-2, Minnesota 2-3

The Seahawks game is absolutely huge next week.

Rich Eisen said that Minnesota has the last playoff spot right now. Probably because they have a better conference record.

For Wild-Card ties (2 Clubs):
1. Head-to-head
2. Best PCT in games within conference
3. Best PCT in common games, min. of four

Vikings 4-5
Cards 3-5

Vikings have a slight lead.

According to ESPN.com

Both games next week are conference games.

That cannot be right. In a three way tie, Division record cannot take precedence over conference record. Therefore Minnesota has the edge.

Sorry to rain on the parade

But if the Cardinals make the playoffs, they have little chance of going anywhere. Many of the best players are injured and the residual simply is not good enough to go very far.

Getting in is huge. Be happy with that.

Plus I kinda remember a no win situation in cowass around '98. :)

To break a tie for the wild card team, three or more teams:
1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. Detroit has the edge over Minnesota by virtue of a better division record.
2. Head-to-head sweep. Arizona has the edge over Detroit by virtue of head to head win.

Interesting... none of the teams in NFC yet eliminated. That means even Rams have a shot... Amazing!

AFC Tiebreakers
  • Cleveland is the No. 6 seed based on conference record over Tennessee (5-4 to Titans' 4-4)
NFC Tiebreakers
  • Seattle is the No. 3 seed based on head-to-head record over Tampa Bay (1-0).
  • Arizona is the No. 6 seed based on head-to-head record over Detroit (1-0).
  • Detroit wins a division tiebreaker based on division record over Minnesota (3-2 to Vikings' 2-3).
AFC teams eliminated (week)
  • Miami (Week 11), N.Y. Jets (Week 13)
NFC teams eliminated (week)
  • None

This thing is wide open.

I don’t see them catching Seattle, the Hawks will go at least 2 and 2 the rest of the way for a 10-6 record so the Cards would have to win out to catch them. Possible but not likely.

So that leaves 9 teams for 2 spots. The Giants (8-4), Lions (6-6), Vikings (6-6), Cards (6-6), Bears (5-7), Panthers (5-7), Saints (5-7), Eagles (5-7), and the Skins (5-7). In my view Detroit has the hardest schedule but the rest is about even. They will all have to play each other during the stretch so it will come down to which team gets hot at the right time. Every team on here has the real possibility of going 0-4 or even 3-1, 4-0 over the next four games.

Here are the games for next week.

Chi Vs Was
Det Vs
Dallas
Giants Vs Eagles
Min Vs 9ers

Cards Vs Hawks
Car Vs Jac
NO Vs Falcons

It looks like a 9-7 record would almost lock up a playoff spot. Can the Cards go 3-1 against the Hawks, Saints, Falcons, and Rams?

Depends what you mean by "anywhere". First round against the Seahawks or Bucs, even on the road? I think they have a pretty decent shot. If they wind up winning the division, again, they can win in the first round, most definitely.

It'd take something untoward to win at Green Bay or at Dallas, though. Those teams are head and shoulders above the rest.
