How good is Warner in Superbowls (even if he's 1-2)

From SI's Peter King MMQB:

John Elway played in five Super Bowls. Joe Montana played in four. Kurt Warner has played in three -- and has thrown for more yards than both Montana and Elway.

In 12 quarters, Warner has passed for 1,156 yards, the most in Super Bowl history. In 16 quarters, Montana threw for 1,142. In 20 quarters, Elway threw for 1,128.

Every bit as good, if not better. The two losses were at least somewhat tainted.:koolaid:

Once he clears his head from this loss I think he'll decide to play 1 more year and retire. Being soooo close, and by some opinions, cheated out of a second ring, I'll bet he can't just walk away. Not as good as he's played this year.

Oh God, don't post this.

:lmao: "Here we go again" is what I thought when I read it.

For some reason I find humor in the the ongoing arguments over Warner, it has actually helped me get through the last 18 hours.

For the record, before I get accused of which side of the fence I am on, with all honesty, I don't care who QBs the team as long as it's the better QB which Kurt was this year.

LOL,

Don't worry no one's going to have a heart attack over this thread.

IMO they're just lobbying for his HOF status, I have no problem with em doing that.

That's what I'm talkin' about!!!! (plus I want Kurt back).......:D

The strange thing is I don't mind him comming back under the right terms myself.

He needs to be better aware of situations which define football, you have to be more focused on what the situation is and realize that what you've done all along aint cutting it in this situation, there is a time for risks and a time to play it safe and he took a rather casual risk at the wrong time IMO.

All I want is a guy like Warner to realize this and stop doing that that's all.

That and figure out how to go under center and not trip, and to hand the ball off with more precision so as to not lay it on the turf for everyone to have a grab at it.

The things he does wrong are so correctable that you have to say for the love of God just correct them already.

Warner's record stand on their own... and when compared in historical context, they ensure that he will be a quick and easy selection into the HoF...

I may have this wrong, but I believe there have only been two 9&7 teams to ever make the Super Bowl... Warner was the QB for both teams!

I still haven't seen an example given of a QB that exceeds Warner in the post season.

If 68%, 1,145 yards, 11 TD 3 INT and 112 rating in 4 games in the playoffs isn't good enough then expectations and responsibility on Warner is far too high.

No, the Rams were 13-3 and 14-2 when he went with them. The '79 Rams were 9-7 and I believe the '80 Raiders might have been 9-7. They may have just been the first wild card team to win the Super Bowl but I think they were also 9-7.

Trent Dilfer, 1-0 in the Super Bowl winning percentage 1000, Kurt Warner 1-2 .3333.

:) I'm just teasing you.

Couldn't resist, as far as stats go he's the best ever in the Super Bowl.

No problem. From the Warner side of things, it's lucky that he at least got the one win otherwise his legacy would be even more mired than it is.

I watched that game but the real game that year was the Championship game against Tampa, in that game he made one crucial throw against the toughest defense I've seen in 15 years, that defense was nails.

I think there is a very simple answer to this question. . .

In every Superbowl, Warner has put his team in a position to win just over two minutes to play.

If you gave me the option of having a QB that would have us winning EVERY SB MY STEELERS played in with a little over 2 minutes left, I would jump on it every time.

In the end, Warner HAS to be seen as one of the best SB QB's to play the game.

I agree. I still can't believe Proehl made that catch. It's certainly a testament to how exciting Warner's post season career has been when you consider how many big throws he's had like that. The game winner to Bruce, the 5 TD's vs. Minnesota, the comeback vs. the Saints, the incredible 2008 run...it's pretty impressive.

Warner is the reason we made it to the SB. He puts us over the top.

So knowing him from a fan standpoint, do you think he comes back or not?

Long Answer....Very good
Short Answer...Outstanding

43 Superbowls...how many QB's played in 3. That is meritorious in itself. Also consider how many have passed through the turnstiles since 1999 and how many played in the game.

I think he's going to come back. He really likes playing football and I think being able to stay healthy for 20 games this season will give him the inspiration to keep going. With he and Fitz just hitting their stride this year I think he will want to come back for more and with small adjustments to what they've got in place being able to start fast again next year.

A guy here at work was saying Haley was comming here and bringing Warner with him.

I was like dude that's the silliest thing ever said, Warner is going to be playing about two more years tops and those two years are never going to be for a team playing outside and a team as far down as the Chiefs are now with minimal weapons.

Warner will retire a Cardinal one way or the other. It's nice to think of the Playstation possibilities of Warner going to KC or Minnesota or Chicago or whatever but money isn't what has driven or drives Warner enough to make him make another change like that. He's been very clear about wanting to stay in Arizona and I don't think it's press-speak or ulterior. If he's the incumbent starter and get's a reasonable deal from the Cards I would bet that he would come back even though Brenda apparently wants him to retire.

She wants him to get a dog too and he hasn't been shy about disagreeing about it. I think he values her input but I don't think she will be able to talk him into quitting if he's still got the fire. I wonder if he's going to show up at the Pro-Bowl? I've pretty much assumed up 'til now that it wasn't even a question but if he doesn't, it might be some kind of indicator.

Well his welcome home speech he was pretty vauge, my wife thinks he retires, me personally I bet he stays, he'll get a fair deal from us and if he wants to play he should only play for us, there is no reason on earth to take another deal for slightly more money or anything of the sort and I agree I don't think he would.
