For those that have seen him play this summer, or just have a hunch? Post reasons why as well.

You have some complementary choices there, as playing at least 50 and missing 10-20 could be the same thing.

He will will have some reoccurence of swelling or something to keep him out around 20 games or so.

I though about that, but there is 82 games, so that's why I chose 50 as an option. If he plays 50 then he's missed 32 games.

He'll play in quite a few, at the beginning, play poorly, and be through by Christmas.

Microfracture. That's all you need to know.

I thought about putting you in the last poll option:)

Well, if he misses 20 games, he still played "at least 50". That was my only comment.

Is that Skkorp, or Randy Quaid from Major League 2?

 Yeah, Zach Randolph and Chris Webber sure played poorly last season (18/8 and 20/10) and missed a lot of games (8 and 7 respectively).

I can understand your long term pessimism. Next season I think Amare will be Moses Malone, age 30 as opposed to Moses Malone, age 22. However Randolph and Webber played well last season. I don't think you can argue that Amare works harder than both those guys. He has shown that he is continually developing a more complete game than just dunking.

I said 10-20 mostly because they would want to save him for the playoffs and he might have some trouble early on playing in the NBA after more than a year off. I'm really excited to see him play and hope he does well. The whole season and team's future rests on his shoulders.

this is a poorly worded poll.

it is neither mutually exclusive nor collectively exhaustive

i vote for less than 10 games missed but more than 0, i.e. games missed due to reasons other than his knee...

What would your better wording be? (Not saying mine is that good:))

I didn't really want to do like a range of games with like 20 options, it's just more to see what the general thought of the board was on how he will do this next year.

I hope he does miss less than 10. I'm really interested in seeing what some of the people who have seen him play in the summer leauge think.

Yep, I wanted to try and keep the options low, but some overlap.

you can capture most sentiments but still keep a low number of options:

Amare will miss:
-less than 10 games

(captures the sentiment that he will be pretty much completely healthy)

-10 to 25 games

(either mild nagging injuries all season, or one substantial setback)

-26 to 50 games

(moderate to severe nagging injuries and multiple setbacks)

-at least 50 games

(your doomsday case. very few people would look at this and say i plan on amare missing 55 games, and therefore this will capture how many people think he's d-u-n. dun.)

there you have it: mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive, with clear delineation between the relative nature of each category. In my previous job I used zoomerang/surveymonkey quite a bit :)

This Stinks!

It's NOT all about Amare. Sure if Amare comes back healthy we have the best shot but we were so close this year without him.

Instead of sitting on their hands and blabbing about how we're getting Amare back we should have taken a different approach.

The Suns could have said, "Let's conduct this off season like Amare's done. Decide who would have got us over that last hurdle this season and do whatever it takes to get him. We're so close let's go over the cap for a year or two and give it our best shot. If it doesn't pan out we go back to the drawing board."

Instead they have done NOTHING!

Unfortunately, the Suns cannot financially do that, even though you make it sound easy. In 4 months he becomes the Suns' highest paid player for the next 5 years--you can't ignore that when trying to sign more talent.

If Sarver was really willing to take a risk they could have done it.

Give T2 the $21 mil. and trade a pick or two and the exception for a GOOD PG. The Suns made $40 mil. this year. If it doesn't work out they could do a salary dump next summer or the summer after. Its not like they'd have a bunch of bad players with bad contracts.

Again you make it sound so easy. And an extra 5 or 10 million might seem like a little to you (??), but that's not exactly chump change, not even to a millionaire like Sarver (heck, even Mark Cuban now is very concerned about the luxury tax!).

And again, the Suns tried like crazy to trade their picks, but nobody would trade with them. Is that so hard to understand? Why do you think the Spurs have had very little action in the realm of big trades? Because nobody wants to be associated with making a good team even better. Sure, they have a Rasho deal here and a Nazr deal there, but come on, we're getting John Salmons, which may have nearly the same kind of impact as the Rasho deal.

The fact is, as easy as everyone (and especially the anti-Sarver crowd) makes it out to be, it is NOT easy to build a championship team. One, you have to spend the money (that might not even be available, even if you think these owners have bottomless pockets like Dolan), and two, if you are trading, you have to realize that not a lot of owners and GMs want to make a good team even better.

I was talking about trading the picks we have now.

If the Suns had one more strong guard and KT healthy during the playoff run it probably would have got them past the Mavs. It was that close.

I totally agree with your assertion that owners seem to be content with being good. It takes a LOT of nerve to stick your neck out and take a chance like I described. It worked for the Dbacks in 2001 but much more often you just get screwed.

Unless Amare comes back 100% healthy the Suns have a window named Steve Nash that I'm guessing will be closed in about two years.

Huge Bump to show how we thought about Amare before the season. Interesting to read the quotes, and see the poll results.

Those who voted 82, are the winners! Amazing year for Amare.
