I love watching the Cardinals, but the idea of watching the first game being against the Steelers, in Heinz field no less, about makes me ill. It's going to be nothing but Steeler love the whole night, and our Cardinals are going to get Washington Generals treatment IMO.

I might sit this one out and get the highlights later. After that Superbowl, I can't watch.

Cardinals kill the Steelers this thursday. I know it's preseason, I don't care. Blow them out.

I hate to burst your bubble. But this game other than some of the first quarter will only show us how deep we may be on the roster. If we win great, but ultimatly it has little to do with how we open up for the first game. It has more to do with who makes this team. I'm looking foward to seeing Matt play. Will Lance make it. How will our o-line shape up and who makes it from our rookie crop.

Eh, there's no bubble to burst. I just don't want to watch a Steelers/Cardinals game that means nothing, I guess. They're the winners, we're the losers, and it will still be the same after this game.

I'm stoked that our season will have officially begun. I'm just pissed that the NFL ***holes decided to add salt to the wound by sticking us in Pittsburgh for our first preseason game.

I'm sure the order was decided after the Super Bowl, but we had to pay back the Steelers for coming out this way for preseason a couple of years ago.

Agreed! Just a way to get the backups and rookies some playing time. Not really even worth watching.

I'm jazzed the game is being shown in Australia.

Last year must have been a record for regular season Cards games down here, and the Superbowl appearance plus the offensive style should ensure it's another good viewing year.
I'm not worried about the result, just keen to see how the rooks handle themselves.

I'm such a sick freak that I'm mildly thrilled with the HOF game tonight.

Come on now how could you not be interested in seeing how our new guys look?

I love the first preseason game just for that reason. Looking forward to hopefully seeing the Lance Long I've heard about in the Camp reports, the big baby Herman Johnson and how he looks next to the other behemoths on the lines, and seeing who really looks better Palko or BSP.

Lots to watch in Pittsburgh.

(Oh I forgot Warner probably won't play more than a minute or two if at all. No wonder you're not interested :D ;))

True story.
I love the preseason as much as the regular season in some regards. Evaluation is one of those reasons.

I for one am all against expanding the season to 18 games. I love the preseason. It gives me a chance to watch a game in a relaxed state of mind and also focus on our rookies and backups.

There is absolutely a part of me that wants to see us kick their asses, but bottom line is come out of the game healthy. As far as I'm concerned I would be thrilled to death to win the toss , march down the field, score a td and then sit the entire starting line-up.

The Super Bowl loss doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did. As I stated in my thread about watching the Super Bowl again for the first time, I came away cleansed. I KNOW we have a good and competitive team. Nothing that happens this Thursday night will change that fact.

Can't say I agree with this thread at all.

I am as bitter about the Tragedy in Tampa as anyone but I am about to explode with anticipation for this upcoming preseason game. I don't care if we were playing Appalachian State. I just want to see my boys back on the field under the lights hitting someone else.

Yeah, it will be great to see matty getting some pt. Also, to check out the new guys as well.

Finally, I hope we kick the steelers all over the field. I'm still po'ed at what I perceived to be a couple of dirty plays during the SB. One was a spear against hightower down on the goal line. An absolutely vicious hit.

The other was Harrison mugging Francisco during a special teams play. Way, way, way over the top.

Plus, I just don't like rothiesburger's smug little smile. I hope he does some work for charities or something, because he just comes across like a jerk.

My three least favorite teams:

1. St. Louis
2. Dallas
3. Pittsburgh

Mild anticipation is the word.

I really want to see some of these young players and how they perform in game situations, e.g. Lance Long, Alan Branch, Cody Brown, Rashad Johnson, Greg Toler, and the new Tim Hightower. Bring it on.

I'm Psyched, But For Different Reasons...

I could care less if it we were playing the Steelers or they were merely televising the Red & White "scrimmage*."

- It's the first preseason game.

- The first time many of us get to see anyone get leveled since February.

- It's on national TV on a Thursday night (instead of 3 am on NFL Network - not that I'm complaining)

- I want to see the rooks.

- I want to see how crisp the passing and running attack looks.

- I want to see the extent to which each unit plays well together.

- I'm looking for a home run hitter in the return game.

- I'm hoping one of our two rookie LB's stands out.

- It's probably too much to expect to see a wee bit of Beanie, but one can hope.

- And, of course, I'm praying for no injuries.

It's Christmas, boys & girls! Only it comes in August.

* BTW - Local sports cable outlets in many NFL cities televise team scrimmages (& I know there's a regularly scheduled Giants training camp report on local cable). But we don't. So what's with FSN-AZ? Are they doing anything? Do they and the team still enjoy a working relationship?

Local channels here only show the Crowboys, once in a while the Broncos

It's preseason dude... As Iverson once said, "it's Practice man... Practice...".

He can throw for 300 yards and 3 TD's and it won't mean squat. One day he'll get his chance again when W's actually count. We'll know then if Matty is legit, or just another hyped up, highly drafted flunky...
