Zach Edey's time was short was on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Memphis Grizzlies rookie played more than half of his total minutes in the first quarter.
Edey grabbed two offensive rebounds and scored a basket in the first quarter, but the Cavaliers attacked him on the other end. Cleveland used its shifty guards and wings to create scoring advantages by isolating Edey on the perimeter.
Defensive struggles were a consistent theme for the Grizzlies in a 133-124 loss inside FedExForum.
With Jaren Jackson Jr. back after missing five games, Memphis relied on him and more small-ball lineups. Edey didn't play in the fourth quarter after getting a short run in the third.
Memphis will be back in action against the Miami Heat on Saturday (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).
