The Memphis Grizzlies made a surprising adjustment on Friday night.
Rookie center Zach Edey was not in the starting lineup. He had started nine straight games and 33 of the last 34 for Memphis.
Edey has said several times this season that he can adjust to coming off the bench because that's how his college career started at Purdue. The early signs in the Intuit Dome showed he was right.
Despite Edey's strong start, neither he nor the Grizzlies were able to finish strong. After building a six-point halftime lead, the Grizzlies fell 128-108.
Edey scored eight points in the first half and didn't look overmatched in his matchup against Clippers center Ivica Zubac. Guarding players like Zubac is why the Grizzlies drafted Edey.
Despite playing half the quarter, Edey was essentially a non-factor in the second half. He didn't score, and his defense wasn't as impactful.
Here is how Edey fared on Friday night against the Clippers.
